fog at robert moses

please click on photo to see greater fog detail.

it was a perfect beach day last saturday when we left our neighborhood, or so we thought. once we got to the beach we discovered it was covered with a blanket of fog. unfortunately this made it difficult to go in the ocean since we could not see much past the foamy part of the water. it really didn't matter though, it was still fun to sit and relax by the ocean. we also found out this last weekend was the one hundred year celebration of robert moses state park!

view from the beach at montauk

please click on photo to see hazy sky and clouds.

walking along the beach, this is what you see. it is the only "skyscraper" in the middle of the town of montauk-if you can call it that! it is actually a condominium.

fog at ronjo

please click on photo to enlarge to get a much better view of the statuary.

no this is not a blurry picture, the fog is creating this effect! when the fog rolls in at montauk it seems to overwhelm everything. ronjo's is a uniquely designed resort out in montauk. I can't tell you much about it other than I always appreciate their unique statuary gracing the front of their building. go here for more info and another view of ronjos.

memory motel in montauk

please click on photo for more motel details

this is the hotel the rolling stones actually hung out at while visiting andy warhol's estate way back when. it sits near the center of town and if you were driving by you may not even notice it if you weren't looking for it like I was. the story goes its pool table and piano is what attracted the stones. the story also goes that what went on there inspired the song "memory motel". pretty cool.

across from gosman's ...

please click on this photo to see a much better view of this landscape.

across this small inlet lies this little piece of land forming a picturesque landscape that relaxes you as you dine at gosman's. so seamlessly in tune with its natural surroundings it is comforting to see whole stretches of land left barely built upon. this is a rarity in long island. I think that is why I love visiting the islands most eastern end, there are lots of stretches of open land out here.

seagull at gosman's dock in montauk

this pretty bird was hanging out right next to the deck where we were dining hoping for someone to share their food with him. every once in a while he would yell out for our attention but unfortunately his yelling didn't work. in montauk there is gosman's restaurant and then there is the more affordable takeout bar you can order quick meals from right next door that is also run by gosman's. it is a great place to go for some tasty seafood. I love their lobster bisque.

the mansion at the village club of sands point

here we were at another graduation party. if you would like to know more about this manor's history, go here. just below is the inner courtyard of the mansion that served as an elegant dance floor where the disc jockey played music while the children danced. they had a lot of fun.

throgs neck bridge

just beyond Jessica's balloons aboard the romantica as we sailed between the isles of long and manhattan. it was a beautiful evening for a party on a boat. only moments before I snapped this photo it was pouring rain. we celebrated a friends graduation and were lucky to see an orange moon rise as night fell.

happy first day of summer

still, we are not on long island, but we aren't too far! this shop is in soho on the isle of manhattan. I thought this scene was fitting since today is the first day of summer. notice the pigeon eavesdropping.

this is not in long island...

Pretty-Girls-in-SICIS-SOHO-NYC

the store is in soho, new york. we pass this place almost every time we go to manhattan and they always have something new in the window. isn't she pretty? walking around their shop is like visiting an art exhibit. they make beautiful mosaic creations to show off their tiles. the name of the shop is sicis. go here to check out their fabulous website.

over the garden gate

Garden-Gate

inspired as I perused cheltenham's daily photo this morning, I ran outside and snapped this photo in our garden, in our little corner of the world here on long island. I inherited these rambling roses when we took ownership of this property. every june they continue to grace us with their presence. I love them. go check out cheltenham's view here, it is truly awesome.

another pic of lido golf club in lido beach on long island

what a nice view we had of the golf course while dining in the upper level of the club last night. there was lots of big blue sky with oblong shaped cottony clouds floating by and endless green grass that seemed to roll on forever. the food was quite good too. I had bowtie pasta with clam sauce, mixed greens and the fat flat noodles with penne ala vodka sauce. unfortunately I'm not a golfer but I did overhear from several of the golfers that they had a perfect day for it. please go here if you'd like to know more about the club.

lido golf club

my first golf outing and it was for two good causes. all proceeds are to benefit life's worc and hospice care network. life's worc helps the developmentally disabled & those with autism. hospice care supports those who are at the end of their life as well as families who are grieving the loss of their loved ones. I am very proud of these two organizations that are helping communities here on long island.

cherry tree with storm clouds...

the blurriness is due to the high winds, please click on the photo if you'd like to see the blurry details.

...on long island. I wanted to show you the multitude of cherries that are gracing our tree in our backyard here on long island. every june we are treated to their shades of yellow, orange and red, they are beautiful to see. as I was photographing, a storm began to brew. it was wonderful to watch. it seemed to start suddenly. we had a severe thunderstorm warning for a couple of hours but we were lucky, we didn't lose any power and suffered no damage.

graduating tent

please click on photo for more interesting imagery.
or rather, graduation tent. this is where I have been lately, celebrating my son's graduation...under a tent, here on long island. there are many of these tents being erected all over long island as masses of people populate warm weather celebrations in the great outdoors. it is wonderful to be at an event outside in the summertime if you have a tent handy. they shield you from the sun and the rain.

smart cars on long island

I wish I had the guts to drive one of these on long island. they are the cutest little cars. I even like the name. It's just so crowded here on the roads. plus the majority of the people that live here drive large vehicles which is quite intimidating at times when driving a mid size car. how would I feel next to a suburban utility vehicle while driving this little mini?

alabama street in long beach on long island

if you click on this photo you will enlarge it so you can actually see the sand in one persons driveway.

long beach is a unique part of long island. it is a cozy beach community in that the majority of its residents live there year round. the island is small enough and built up enough where you can see the water from the street at certain points. I was at my friends house on sunday and when I came outside I saw the sky was getting real dark as if a storm was coming in. five minutes later I was driving home with giant raindrops pelting my windshield. everyone was leaving the beach at once. only moments before the sun was shining.

signs of summer on long island

please click on the photo for a much better view of the blimp.

I heard the whir of the motor before I recognized it as the sound of the goodyear blimp. on the weekends in the summertime we get to see the blimp slowly travel over our neighborhood most likely to be on its way to advertise and film at Shea Stadium. although I don't like the large planes that fly over my house, I never mind seeing the blimp.

bethpage state park

it is EXTREMELY hot and quite balmy here today on long island and from what I've been hearing it will stay like that through this monday. that doesn't seem to stop golf lovers from playing golf though! and although you don't see any golfers here, they were out there today. I love this golf course because I get to drive by it often and it is a beautiful view. enjoy!

a magnificent clock tower here on long island

Not! sorry there is something about these type of towers that are just too faux fab for me. though I have to say this shopping center is one of the nicer ones here on long island. we have quite a few rather bleak depressing ones. at least there is an attempt to make things interesting here.

long island expressway

also known as the l.i.e. . this was taken 7ish AM today heading west during rush hour. I used to hate driving on this road with all of the big trucks. now I like it. I have found the truckers to be the safest drivers. This is reassuring when you are sharing the road with lots of them. I've also noticed many improvements in traffic flow too. I'm rarely in a traffic jam, unless there is a major accident of course. the expressway also boasts pretty plantings adorning the road. though my favorite part of the l.i.e. is that you get a nice view of some beautiful big sky, which I love-even if it is a rainy day.

please see previous post for more info.
I don't think this place has changed one bit since it has opened. have you ever heard the expression, "if it aint broke, don't fix it?"

convenient long island cleaners

I don't see many signs that look like this anymore here on long island. technically it is not a drive-in in terms of what they used to be like when I was a kid. this is more like a regular strip mall parking lot scenario. there is a small parking lot directly in front of the store so you can get out of your car and into the store quickly. unlike when I was a kid, where they would actually come to your car to take your order. that was only done at burger places from what I remember.

jones beach theater

today was the first day you could buy tickets directly from the box office at the jones beach theater. you save a substantial amount of dollars purchasing them this way but you don't always get the best seats and some concerts may be sold out by this time. we usually go to at least one concert there every summer. it is an outdoor theater and the stage looks as if it is floating on the water.I have never been disappointed. it is a great way to spend a summer evening.
