today's post is dedicated to all of the people who worked this last weekend keeping us all safe here on the east coast during hurricane irene. I feel extremely fortunate to have kept both our power and our phone service especially since people in our surrounding area are without both. god bless us everyone. below is a photo of the typical sort of damage you see in my neighborhood. farmingdale didn't get too much flooding but we did get quite a few fallen trees. as you can see from above, thankfully the brown eyed susan's in my backyard are ok too. today is mellow yellow monday. if you feel so inclined, please visit drowsey monkey'smellow yellow mondaymeme to check out all things yellow. & don't forget to add your own bit of yellowness too!
I shot this two days ago in the home depot parking lot here in farmingdale. seems like I should have been inside buying disaster preparedness supplies instead of photographing the sky. this morning my husband said the center of irene is supposed to pass right over the nassau and suffolk county border - right where we live! hopefully our electric will stay in service so I can keep you posted. if you'd like to gaze at more wondrous skies from all around the world or if you'd like to add your own sky, please visit the skywatch friday meme, thanks to klaus and his team, sandy, wren, and sylvia.
I took this last june while sailing onlake montauk. of course I wasn't actually sailing the boat myself but I was indeed on a sailboat as we passed by this perfectly picturesque scene.I live in a fairly congested part of long island so it always amazes me when I see I am not very far from such quiet beauty.
I guess by now everyone who lives on the east coast has heard a story from at least one of their friends about where they were and what they were doing when the earthquake hit tuesday afternoon. I was sitting down in a chair in a meeting with two other people, one of the two felt it & the other thought we were both crazy since she didn't feel anything. many people thought they were just dizzy or disoriented before realizing it was something outside themselves. I'm just glad it turned out to be nothing serious!
today is abc wednesday and today's letter is f. if you like fresh baked goods, please visit the peter pan donut and pastry shop on manhattan avenue in brooklyn to sample some of these extremely fresh red velvet cupcakes. otherwise, please visit abc wednesday and join in the fun.
earlier this summer while traveling to massachusetts, I came upon this road sign. I think I like this one as much as I like the picture of the deer I took in vermont. today is mellow yellow monday. if you feel so inclined, please visit drowsey monkey's mellow yellow monday meme to check out all things yellow. & don't forget to add your own bit of yellowness too!
for more "sunday bridges", please visit louis la vache's "Sunday Bridges" here. to see a video I took while riding over this bridge last summer, go here.
last weekend I ventured into brooklyn to visit the brooklyn flea. their website said rain or shine. unfortunately the torrent of rain the metropolitan area experienced sunday was just too much and not one vendor showed up. the upside was I got to explore different parts of brooklyn while searching for a place to eat. I didn't stop at peter pan's but I like this picture. how is the weather by you? to share a part of your world or just see more of others, please go to "that's my world tuesday". a big thanks to klaus for hosting with his team of helpers, sandy, wren, and sylvia.
I just found out that klaus peter, the founder of this meme, 'that's my world tuesday" passed away last thursday. my heart goes out to his friends and family. R.I.P. dear klaus.
while waiting for my turn to traverse this flooded roadway yesterday, I couldn't help notice all the little patches of yellow breaking through the overcast atmosphere. we had an unbelievable amount of rain pouring out of the sky for the ENTIRE day sunday. it was actually nice for a change. and, I think we needed it. today is mellow yellow monday. if you feel so inclined, please visit drowsey monkey's mellow yellow monday meme to check out all things yellow. & don't forget to add your own bit of yellowness too!
if you'd like to gaze at more wondrous skies from all around the world or if you'd like to add your own sky, please visit the skywatch friday meme, thanks to klaus and his team, sandy, wren, and sylvia.
this photo was taken back when I last visited old westbury gardens. while walking along a trail, I came upon the sunlight shining so perfectly on the "temple of love". as you can see below there is an entranceway to the temple. looks like a nice place for a couple to have their picture taken.
trapped inside my car while waiting out this downpour earlier today, I entertained myself by taking photos with my iphone.this post is dedicated to abc wednesday and today's letter is the letter D. if you'd like to see other representations of the letter D, or if you'd like to add your own D representation, please visit 'abc wednesday'.
this photo was taken back in june as I lounged beneath my umbrella while vacationing out in montauk. I haven't been to the beach nearly as much as I'd like too. it's been a weird summer. I find it has been going by way too quickly. at least there is always mellow yellow monday to fall back on-if you'd like to see more things yellow, or add your own bit of yellow, please visit drowsey monkey's 'mellow yellow monday' meme.
here is another view of the backyard at searles castle. I posted the iphone photo of it here last week. below is another view of the back of searles castle. the reflection really adds to the view, don't you think? if you'd like to see more reflections or add your own to the mix, please check out the wonderful 'weekend reflections' meme, thanks to James!
I actually saw a rainbow in this same sky on the other side of the street just moments before but it faded before I could get a good picture of it. this was a nice treat nonetheless. if you'd like to gaze at more wondrous skies from all around the world or if you'd like to add your own sky, please visit the skywatch friday meme, thanks to klaus and his team, sandy, wren, and sylvia.
while visiting massachusetts last weekend I happened upon an antiquarian book fair at searles castle. below is a picture I took while looking out over the backyard from the castles balcony. I wish I could tell you what lens I used on my iphone to get these effects-it was pure accident. I think I need to take a class at the apple store!
I think we were in new york here - though I can't be certain since we traveled through new york, connecticut and massachusetts in a relatively short span of time and I was so busy looking at the scenery I didn't bother looking at the details on my iphone's map too much as we drove. this is a sight I don't often get to see & I am always amazed when I do. it's not so far from where I live either, which is pretty neat to know such calming beauty is so close by. today is abc wednesday and today's letter is the letter C. if you'd like to see other representations of the letter C, or if you'd like to add your own C representation, please visit 'abc wednesday'.
I had the good fortune of tasting some excellent coffee at the irving farm coffee shop in upstate millerton, ny over this last weekend. their mellow yellow frittata was pretty good too. much to my surprise I found out while googlingirving farm coffee, that there are two irving farm coffee house's in nearby manhattan! happy first day of august everyone. if you feel so inclined, please visit drowsey monkey's mellow yellow monday meme to check out all things yellow. & don't forget to add your own bit of yellowness too!
