No filter, the abundance of sunshine was all one needed in order to capture this blue sky yesterday. And it was the perfect type of snow storm where streets and sidewalks cleared themselves. Long Island has been very lucky in terms of not having to shovel snow.

...or Not? You decide.
Whatever you do today, make it something different than your usual weeknight routine.
Here you can see one of those truly massive trees that have been around for ages. Moving farther back would have put me in the street so I had to tilt my camera to fit it all inside the frame.
Known as the Eastern White Pine tree, you don't have to look too far to see one on Long Island.

The Lincoln Family Home in Hildene is a beautiful place to visit this time of year. Located in Vermont, it's an easy drive from Long Island. If you like hiking or outdoor Winter sports you can snowshoe or cross country ski on the grounds within walking distance to an adjacent goat farm with it's own cheese making factory. One year we were lucky enough to see some baby goats during the birthing season. It was a wonderful thing to see nearby volunteers watching over and assisting the mother goats. To see more of Hildene, check out my Instagram stories @Longislanddailyphoto
Look at this blue sky! Isn't it amazing how a sunny day changes everything? Here's a flashback Friday post from the 2010 archives - a Long Island Daily Photo wintertime afternoon. This is for all my Irish friends and fellow Long Islanders anticipating all that is good that comes with springtime. Lots of history here, eh?

I am going to go against my superstitious belief that if I talk about how lucky we have been with the weather this Winter, our luck will then change. To make matters worse, this is a photo from my Long Island Daily Photo archive from a blizzard back in April 2010.
A throwback to a post from 2009 when I first started Long Island Daily Photo. I remember how the vivid colors of Anna Sui's window display caught my attention and then I looked closer and captured this little corner of her display. You know something is good when it's still as delightful to look at as it was 10 years ago.

These photos were taken in February, '09 during a major reconstruction happening in NYC's Washington Square Park. This part of the park had just been opened to visitors and although it was a chilly day, back then it wasn't terribly unusual for the park to be empty. These days I'm not so sure Washington Square Park is ever empty.

Here's one from the archives. With the exception of more traffic and possibly more power lines, the intersection of Glen Cove Road and Jericho Turnpike hasn't changed much since 2009.

Everything from Christmas decorations to obsolete electronics, papers, clothing, furniture - basically everything I own is being seriously reconsidered in terms of its usefulness in my day to day existence.

My photographs are a different story where I find them hands down non-negotiable territory.

For me they are the most efficient way to document what I see experience and feel about the world around me. At least I thought I felt this way until I discovered thousands of photographs I haven't looked at in years, many of which are not all that inspiring. With this in mind I am looking back on the Terabyte of photos I have stored from almost a decade ago when I first started this blog. Perhaps I might find a few gems..

What "things" inspire you in your life?

Captivated by the bounty of the Brown Eyed Susans, Priscilla turned to me, tongue wagging in sheer joy as if to say to me she could not believe what she was seeing. She leaned down towards the root of the flower, took a long sniff and then basked in the shade the flower lent her so that she could rest a bit before journeying on. #TongueOutTuesday
