Bejeweled by Nature

Buckets of rain poured down on Long Island last Wednesday - but yesterday and today have been pure bliss weatherwise. Check out these jewels nature left behind for us. Albeit temporary, they are treasures nonetheless. Please scroll down below to see if you can find the Yellow Jacket camouflaged amongst the yellow leaves.

Bring it on Autumn

Priscilla notices it is Autumn. She's actually also pretending to be invisible to the squirrels you can't hear taunting her from the nearly leafless tree hanging over her as she holds this stance. Still as a statue, tail straight out. She's even willing to miraculously stop sniffing for a moment as she refuses to let them win. Priscilla learned how to act invisible from the squirrels and is now using this skill as a reverse psychology in the hopes of breaking said squirrels down in her efforts to attain total backyard domination. The last time she attempted dominating the backyard, she landed in the hospital as a result of fearlessly jumping over a wall taller than she, hence the leash you notice attached to my person... I mean her person.
I take great comfort that she's at it again.

When it snowed on Long Island the day before Halloween

If you were to ask me right before I stumbled upon this photograph, I would've guessed it was just 3 years ago at the most - only to be shocked when I looked at the date. Ian was still in high school when it snowed that Halloween weekend! Then I remembered driving him home from school and snapping this scene as we circled around the other side of this pond - wherein a very brief moment, everything became illuminated by our sun. It was considered a nor'easter and wreaked a fair amount of havoc on Long Island residents who endured power outages, fallen trees and a slower than usual LIRR.
It will be a bit chilly this Halloween, but so far, thankfully, there is no snow in our forecast.

Priscilla and Her Homies

It's been challenging to try and keep a dog with such an indomitable spirit, still. Priscilla had ACL surgery last September and was advised to limit all of her cardio. No running, jumping or climbing stairs. It's a tall order for one who likes to be in the thick of things. Luckily her support system is waiting in the wings for the day she will be allowed to play with them once again.

Route 109 in Farmingdale

It's that time of year again everyone. Shorter days and darker skies only means one thing to my body clock - hibernation time.

Murdock's Last Hope Rescue

I was inspired to paint Murdock after meeting with the board at Last Hope Animal Rescue here on Long Island. Dr. Maquine shared his story with me and then later introduced me to him. She told me a Long Island volunteer organized a FB page called Adopt Murdock where I later found pictures of him enjoying life outside in the snow. A volunteer, who was kind enough to exercise and care for him posted dozens of pictures of Murdock just as he was meant to be; cared for and loved. It took over a year, but the amazing people at Last Hope wouldn't rest until they found Murdock his forever home. To quote from Last Hope's formal announcement of Murdock's adoption, "...for every dog there is a family".

Murdock's story has only furthered my belief that our four legged friends really are the enlightened ones here on this planet. His beautiful spirit is awe inspiring.

On My Way to Traffic Court Last Thursday #tbt

While stopped in traffic during rush hour last week, I noticed this golden beauty.
