earth hour, reflections & a giveaway....

today people all around the world are celebrating earth hour at 8:30 pm. for just one hour we can practice one way to conserve energy by taking action against climate change-by simply turning off our lights for one hour. going out this evening? why not unplug everything in your house? ok, maybe not the fridge, but you get the idea! for more inspiration, please check out the 'official earth hour' video below.
I wanted to re-post this photograph in honor of today's earth hour since it is one of the most beautiful hidden gems on long island.
on a side note, if you'd like to see more reflections or add your own to the mix, please check out james of newtown area photo's wonderful 'weekend reflections' meme. thanks James!

in celebration of today's earth hour, I am giving away a beautiful book by the australian landscape photographer peter lik called, "spirit of america". the weather channel offered this giveaway to help promote mr. liks' new reality tv show. paraphrased from the w.c.,"...the show will follow mr. lik as he travels across america photographing how weather has a unique impact on landscapes in hawaii, alaska and death valley among other off the map places. peter will share his photographs and techniques while searching for the "perfect shot" as he overcomes weather related obstacles.
I thought this might be of interest to people who love nature, photography and a talented photographer willing to share his knowledge. check out the book here, it really is quite beautiful. I am hoping maybe the weather channel will give me one too!

so, if you are interested, please leave a comment here on this post. and if you'd like to follow me, I'd appreciate that too, if you aren't already that is!
I will announce the winner next thursday march 31, the day peter lik's show debuts on the weather channel. good luck everyone!
I love the spirit of this video, the music is perfect too.

Well.. we can try to remember for one hour, what we have done to the earth.
And for the remaining hours of the year, we can continue destroying earth and environment.
Have a nice weekend.

I Love our beautiful planet Tellus... of course we turned off the lights!
Much Love Anna
I must say that I fret over what is happening to our planet, and if there is an armageddon, it'll be of our own making.

What an excellent idea. I was actually in the "city of light" last Saturday (and didn't notice much dimmed). However, since I was not at home, lights were turned off and things unplugged all over the house. Thanks for having this great giveaway, Lily!

That book is spectacular. The cover picture would be enough to justify the price, probably!
