a view from borgia cafe

as I waited for my food, I could see vesuvio bakery was back in business! this was welcome news, maybe things are getting better. the last time I was in soho I noticed vesuvios had joined the long list of small businesses that had closed and needless to say I found it fairly depressing. I can be very sentimental at times  - I have fond memories of buying bread there on my way home from work when I used to live on thompson street years ago.
cafe borgia is one of my favorite places to grab lunch when I'm visiting soho. I love the grilled mozzarella and basil with tomato sandwich & their vanilla frappes are so light and flavorful. the atmosphere is also very laid back, I've never felt rushed to finish.
to share a part of your world or just see more of others, please go to "that's my world tuesday". thanks to klaus for hosting with his team of helpers, sandy, wren, fishing guy and sylvia. please click on the photo if you'd like to see more details.

It is so sad to see so many small businesses shutting their doors these days! I hope the bakery makes a comeback. Great post and photo as always, Lily! Have lovely week!

Vesuvio's looks like a cozy and inviting place to eat. Great shot! I'm glad they're back for you.

This is a very cool shot, Lily. And welcome news indeed—thanks! I've blogged about Vesuvio's closing—will have to go by there and see if the bread's as good as before.

reading the mozzarella and basil with tomato sandwich is making me hungry!

You've captured the leisure element here perfectly. The Vesuvio reminds me of Nicolas Cage's bakery in Moonstruck.

Wonderful photography as usual. There is nothing quite like a small neighborhood bakery.

I love how you have captured a moment in time with this picture! I wish some of the small businesses that have closed around here would reopen.

I am suddenly very hungry! Both places sound tempting.

Though he lives on the "left coast" as opposed to the "right coast", «Louis» would like to try both the cafe and the bakery you show here!

Having lost a small business of his own, «Louis» is happy to see that the bakery has re-opened...

Always nice to get a good recco on a restaurant in SoHo ... so thanks!

Small restaurants are the best. Around here most of the chains are just too big and noisy. The tomato and mozzarella sounds perfect!

That looks like a nice place. I'm glad I just discovered your blog, it's going to bring back lots of memories of the years I spent on Long Island.
