six more days until autumn

Autumnal-Light-in-Suburban-Farmingdale

there's no doubt about it, autumn is on its way. it's not just the calendar that tells me this is so, it's the light and how I see it affect my photographs. the sun begins its shift, turning the saturated colors of summer towards the earthier more subtle warmth of autumn. the evidence is apparent in this suburban neighborhood street scene I shot during the latter part of last saturday. I noticed this light change inside my house the other day when I thought the light next to the couch was on, when really, it was the angle at which the sun was entering our house. look at how brightly lit up this bookcase is. in the height of the summer months, this corner is usually quite dark. I wrote about this same light three short years ago right here.

You're right, there's no doubt about it. But it's a beautiful light, as proven by your first photo. And I love the corner of that room. I could keep myself busy looking at the books for a long, long time!

Very much true. And when the sun is away we can feel the same by the absence of eye catchers in the landscape, leaves have not quite changed colors yet.

I have to admit, although I much prefer summer weather, the autumn light casts a much prettier effect.

I've noticed the difference in the light too, and am trying to enjoy it while it lasts—because I also notice that there's less of it each day!

Indeed, it's fast upon us. Raining here, chilly today....but I love autumn.
