bat house on long island

last sunday I was walking along the massapequa preserve and saw a bat fly over my husband and son as they ran along the trail. soon after, I passed this 'bat house'. I wonder if batman lives nearby too? I have heard that bats love to eat mosquitoes. maybe this is why I never seem to get bitten whenever I am on the trail. I have seen more than one of these houses while visiting the preserve, though sunday was the first time I ever saw a bat while here.

that is very cool. I have to wonder whether the bats see the bat insignia?

This made me smile.

Thank goodness I don't have to put a bat house — we've so many bats around our neighborhood still! And they can get quite noisy at night. ;)

Great bat house. We put one up and kept checking but never saw a bat in it. When they took the siding down for our remodel they found the little guy asleep between the bat house and our house. I love having them around.

I can't say I'm crazy about bats, but I'm even less fond of mosquitos, so I'm all for having them eaten. Much more environmentally friendly than spraying.

Good for bat conservation and appropriate as we approach Halloween.
