hither hills state park and the yellow line

a long line of campers waited outside hither hills state park to begin their holiday. I'm not sure if it's just a suburban legend or not but I  have heard if you want to camp out at this beach you need to make your reservations a year ahead of time. judging by the long line of vehicles waiting to get in, this rumor just might be true.
this also happens to be another state park where you can use your empire pass to get in. I wrote about it here yesterday.

I wonder what the wait time was to get to the front of the line. Sure looks like a popular place.

I've heard that too! (Just the least reason why, to me, camping is the 7th circle of hell—but these folks did have some great weather, didn't they?)

Yep, I'll bet it's true. Once summer is upon us in the NE, we see lines of traffic on the highway that rivals any nightmare in NYC or LI.

Humans have a great capacity for order and discipline when expensive camping equipment is involved.

Oh my, you would think with reservations there would not be that kind of line. That picture would discourage me from wanting to camp. It, however, is a great photo.

Looks like a typical tail-gating party in any college town during football season! Love the yellow in the mist. It just pops right off the page (screen?). Never seen so many people so eager to "rough it." :-)

Ah, follow the yellow brick road -- well, the yellow line on the road! Must be a great place to go! Love the bright color on a foggy day! Hope the rest of your week goes well, Lily! Enjoy!

Thanks for the comment. I never heard of a place except Yellowstone where you have to reserve one year in advance. Nice picture. I like the morning haze. Thanks for sharing.

All the campers have to be self contained, no peeing in the woods at Hither Hills. :-) PGma

Does look like a long wait near that yellow line!

Camped there for 33 years. The wait is worth it and yes reservations must be made 9 mths ahead ...sold out in seconds. You have million dollar beach, family and friend friendly. All I can say is you have to try it, its not like any other camping and your in the Hamptons
