RIP Sylvia

please click on photo to see pretty girl up close

once a feral young kitty found in our window well with her mewing kittens, it was at least a year before she would let us get close enough to pet her. what we didn't know then, was that Sylvia adopted us. over the next 9 years she found her way into our hearts by filling them with many happy memories, memories we have been sharing since we found her lifeless on the street last night. Sylvia seemed to take great pride in watching over her dominion, our home. I am sure she was waiting for us last night just like she always did. this picture shows her sitting on one of her favorite lookouts, this one facing our side door and kitchen window so she could keep watch as we entered and exited. we are missing her terribly right now.

I'm so sorry about Sylvia. It is terribly hard to lose a pet - even one that is not strictly a pet. They enter our lives, and leave a very large hole when they are gone.

Oh I am so very sad to hear this, what an awful way to lose a friend ... clearly that's what she was, dear Sylvia, rest in cat heaven in peace

I'm so sorry to hear about Sylvia, Lily. She was a beautiful cat. I was amazed by her coloring. If you look at the spot above both eyes, it seems (at least to me) like there were a pair of wide eyes looking back at you.

It's true Bobbie, she wasn't strictly a pet, she was more a family member, so important to my husband, my son & I and our dog Priscilla who became closer to her the last two years.

Thank you Daryl, she indeed was a great friend, such nice company, I am missing her so much, we all are.

Thanks Luv, I always admired her markings too.I think those "wide" eyes were there to fool her prey. We haven't had a mouse in 5 years thanks to Sylvia.

Thanks James, we were happy when we noticed she stayed inside more and more and didn't leave the property as much. but it only takes one instance and our luck ran out. She was not a tame cat by any means when she first started coming around and we never thought we would tame her as much as we did. I guess we were lucky to have had her for 9 years.

Thanks for the hugs Paz, we really need them right now.

I'm SO sorry to hear this, Lily. The animals that find you rather than the other way around are often the really special ones!
Hugs to all of you --

Lily, my heart is aching for you and your family. I've looked at Sylvia's pictures you linked and have fallen in love with her. Someone else mentioned her coloring, which I too thought so beautiful. We have a slate gray cat with "velvet paws" like Sylvia's, and a gray kitten with peach highlights -- both adopted from our neighborhood's random litters. There is something so cuddly (as you titled her photo on your other post) about a gray kittie. In Sylvia's case, her eyes looked equally soft and sweet - with an expression of pure love for you. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Lily, I'm so sad for you and your family. What a beautiful little lady. By gosh it hurts when we lose them. I saw this quote not so long ago. It comforted me a bit. x

Grieve not,
nor speak of me with tears,
but laugh and talk of me
as if I were beside you...
I loved you so -----
'twas Heaven here with you.

So sorry to read about the loss of your pet Sylvia. It is is so true that cats sometimes chose us and not the other way around. I'm sure you gave her love and attention and made her life a happy one.

So sorry about Sylvia - she picked you, not you her, which made her even more special. Adorable photo.

May Sylvia rest in peace. And, may you long enjoy the memories she inspires. She was a sweet kitty.

I'm so sorry. A pet becomes a friend, a member of the family, and losing one is heart-wrenching.
