I happened upon this observatory at vassar, in poughkeepsie, new york while visiting the college earlier this autumn. due to its association with the first well known woman astronomer, maria mitchell, it's considered a national landmark. though no longer used as an observatory, it now houses the education department and classrooms.

Do they still have an observatory somewhere on Campus?
The building must be cool to have a class in.
I have never been to this kind of place. Your photo is great. Thanks for sharing.

As a kid I was always amused by the name Poughkeepsie. It sounded made up and strangely musical.
Interesting building. Good choice for P day.

There's nothing like an observatory to give a touch of class.
A beautiful building Lilly.

I've been to Vassar a few times - I went to New Paltz, across the river. I'd been to Poughkeepsie a LOT.

Well, I didn't know that. I love the sound of the word Poughkeepsie.
I, too, have always laughed at the name Poughkeepsie! From an architectural view, this building looks wildly mismatched with that dome on top.
I love learning new things ... thanks!
I love seeing old historic buildings. This one is a beauty!
That's a great name and a great post.
loved this one :)
Like Oakland Daily, I have always been amused by the name Poughkeepsie, that and Skaneateles.
Just perfect for P! Late visiting from ABC Wednesday.
You can find my Presidents of the United States entry through the link. Thanks!
