priscilla inspects hurricane sandy's path of destruction

it was a tad bit frightening lying in bed listening to the gale force winds blowing through the trees surrounding our property last night - enough so to prompt me to get out of bed & watch the news until the winds died down. I just read that there were at least 10 people killed during the storm, many by fallen trees. I am very grateful as of this writing knowing that my loved ones are safe and sound. tonight I will light a candle in honor of those who are working so hard to put things back together again and for those who are suffering as a result of sandy's path of destruction.

it's a little wet outside

if you listen closely, towards the end of the video you can hear the trees creaking.

the lights are flickering as I try to complete this post...

if you look at our backyard it appears as though we now have a carpet of pine needles. actually, it's pretty cool.

surreal autumn colors with boathouse

we passed this vibrant scene on the way back into town. the grey day and its accompanying darker grey boathouse only seemed to accentuate their surrounding autumn colors.

a carpet of leaves

we found this woodland path just at the edge of cooperstown right after we passed the idyllic backyard splendor I posted about last week.

did someone say frankenstorm?

the word around here is that we may get pummeled by a severe "frankenstorm" just before halloween. sensationalize much oh dear weathermen? personally I think anything will be better than having to listen to more "polling reportage"
every year without fail one of my farmingdale neighbors decorates his entire front yard with all things halloween - providing me the perfect opportunity to illustrate this year's weather and halloween!

wedding lights

a day after the cocktail party at the otesaga hotel, the bride and groom transported forty of us by trolley car to the wedding reception held at the otsego golf club. as you can see, these paper lanterns hanging inside the reception tent provided the perfect photo op for moi. below is a photo of their lovely and delicious autumnal style wedding cake.

otesaga hotel's back porch and view

just like what you would imagine a grand hotel to be and with a view of blackbird bay in lake otsego. this place was awesome!

thank god the debates are over...

I'd say she is out like a light - if it weren't for that ear.

praying mantis on our door last saturday night

the last time I saw one of these guys he was expertly hidden in our potted plant outside in our back yard. I think this one got tired of all my picture taking because I swear he flipped me the bird as he started moving up the door. nah, I'm just kidding - I am sure he is just waving goodbye as he happily went for the spider nest under our eaves. besides, I think seeing one means good luck especially since when I opened the door, he flew at me & landed on my chest.
yes, it was a very exciting saturday night.

Cooperstown, New York

Do you believe this is someone's backyard? Anthony and I decided to walk to the edge of town after noticing a small bridge in the distance and this is what we found. Living in the crowded suburbs of Long Island, it's hard to imagine walking outside my back door to such an incredible view. Maybe I should start imagining it.

will u marry me chelsea mose?

ever since I met a couple of my blogger friends to walk across the brooklyn bridge, I promised ian it was something we had to do together as well. seeing this billboard on the way there added an extra special memory to the trip. ian snapped this photo somewhere on the brooklyn queens expressway. thanks ian!

the Sea at Robert Moses

taken in early september this was the last time I was at the beach with ian & anthony. the sea had a deep blue green cast to it that made it look cold, only it was quite warm - warm enough to go swimming and so we swam!

andy warhol's soup cans

I stumbled upon this display at our local target back in september. I have a strange feeling andy would approve.

northampton massachusetts vintage

so, after we dropped ian off at college in september, we tried distracting ourselves with a visit to my niece who is in her second year at umass. she took us to the lovely town of northampton where we came upon this cool thrift shop display.

autumn sunset on jericho turnpike

while browsing through my archives the title of this photo caught my eye - and judging by the fact that this was taken from the passenger's side of the car, I am pretty sure ian took this photo last fall on the way home from school. if the sun looks this big in this photo you know it must've looked even huger in person. and yes, huger is a real word. but I will admit I wasn't entirely sure myself and I did look it up.

a little sunflower to brighten up this dreary day

I captured this vibrant specimen while walking through my neighborhood with priscilla this past september. can you believe we are nearly half way through october??? it's been almost six months since I last posted here. a lot of good things have happened in my life as of late, a few not so good too. in the end, life always seems to be just how it's supposed to be. I hope that has been the same for you all as well.
