a is for apple, as in the big apple

left bank books, how cool is this place?
it is no secret to previous visitors of this blog how much I love manhattan. this last monday I found myself spontaneously visiting some of my old haunts in the west village. I was amazed at the flood of memories I experienced - seeing places I haven't been too in years. while I remember many a book store throughout lower manhattan I can't say for sure if I've ever been to left bank books. and oh my, what a pleasant surprise this place proved to be! there was a sign on the door that said something to the effect of, "we're a mess, knock if you'd like to come in" only, we didn't read it until we were half way through the door, but thankfully the proprietor welcomed us anyway. there was such a good vibe in this tiny little store and what did we see before us upon entering, but a book my son and I both immediately knew was meant for us to buy. to make matters even more astounding, it was 70 percent off!
you can barely see the top of his cap but there was a cute looking gentlemen hiding behind the stack of books on your right. he said it was ok for me to photograph the shop as long as I didn't photograph him, warning us he was a fugitive of the law.
I love ny.
today is abc wednesday thanks to our host mrs. nesbitt. the letter for the day is A. please go here to join in the fun.

Beautiful images of an aptly named shop. Sorry I missed this treasure: to find something in this kind of shop is always more rewarding that catching it at its place on a shelf...

I could live in book stores. I used to go to a record shop in the village to find the old and obscure...haven't been there in years. Now you have given me a new reason to come into the city.

I loved hanging out in Greenwich Village (mot that far away) back in the summer of 1977, even though I was mildly paranoid about Son of Sam.

I'm now part of the ABC Wednesday Team; thank you for participating!

I love this. When I was quite young my best friend lived in a big red barn that was also a book store. We would play bind-man's-bluff among the stacks. Memories.
Nice photos Lily!I hope they aren't closing! The village is losing such wonderful old shops like this to modernization.

Next time I'm in the Big Apple, I am definitely going to search out Left Bank Books!

I promise I won't photograph the proprietor either!
