this is how much it was snowing when I left vermont yesterday. I must admit I did panic a bit when I looked out the window at seven am. as much as I enjoyed my mini vacation it was time to go home and the thought of being snowed in would have sucked any and all of whatever rest and relaxation I had gleaned over the weekend. check out the road below, and don't worry, I wasn't driving. today is mellow yellow monday so please head on over to drowsey monkey's mellow yellow monday meme and join in the fun.
I'm glad I wasn't facing this beauty while I was eating my dinner. as much as I think deer are beautiful animals I don't understand what is appealing about hanging their heads on a wall. if you'd like to see more shadows or if you want to join in the fun, please visit hey harriet'sshadow shot sunday meme . a big thank you to tracy for hosting shadow shot sunday.
please excuse my late post. this is the first time I am attempting to post from my iPhone while away on a mini vacation. why I decided to go to vermont where there is more snow than we have on long island is beyond me. it is really quiet here though and the food is delicious.

I just dropped my son at the library when I noticed billowing clouds of smoke rising up over farmingdale in the distant sky yesterday. the fire must have just broke out since there wasn't a fire truck in sight. as I drove past the burning building I heard a man shouting in disbelief how quickly the fire took over the structure. go here if you'd like to see more of my pictures of the fire posted on the farmingdale patch website. this post is a part of the abc wednesday meme. if you'd like to see other representations of the letter F, or if you'd like to add your own F representation, please visit 'abc wednesday'
I didn't mind the snow yesterday. it was only a few inches and it will most likely be gone before the end of the week. and I hope that last sentence isn't tempting fate a bit too much... plus, it was fun taking photos of it with my new iphone. to share a part of your world or just see more of others, please go to "that's my world tuesday". a big thanks to klaus for hosting with his team of helpers, sandy, wren, and sylvia.
another iphone picture. I couldn't help notice the sunrise illuminating this boar's head truck. today is mellow yellow monday so please head on over to drowsey monkey's mellow yellow monday meme and join in the fun.
which I probably should just rename, 'I finally got an iPhone'. I know this isn't the greatest picture for shadow shot sunday but I did have fun playing with my new toy. hopefully I will get better at using the iPhone's camera. I used the hipstamatic app for this one, no flash, the jimmy lens & blanko film. if you'd like to see more shadows or if you want to join in the fun, please visit hey harriet'sshadow shot sunday meme. a big thank you to tracy for hosting shadow shot sunday. ps thanks everyone for your well wishes! I actually was up and about for the entire day yesterday, I feel so much better! I hope you all have a great weekend. : )
I must have watched more television in this last week than I have in the last year so when I got outside today and saw how blue the sky was it seemed like everything looked new again, even this furniture store on main street. not too long ago I photographed the back of this store which you can see here if you like, though, please be sure to scroll down to the second picture. if you'd like to see more reflections or add your own to the mix, please check out james of newtown area photo's wonderful 'weekend reflections' meme. thanks James!
it seems like I just photographed the full moon. technically, it's not really full until friday but yesterday around five pm I was finally well enough to venture outside my house and this sky was the first thing I saw. hopefully today I will get some photos from somewhere other than my own backyard. if you'd like to gaze at more wondrous skies from all around the world or if you'd like to add your own sky, please visit the skywatch friday meme, thanks to klaus and his team, sandy, wren, and sylvia.
thank goodness for archives since I am still down for the count and have spent most of yesterday sleeping. this was taken last november at holy child academy, a small private school on long island in old westbury. if you'd like to see other representations of the letter E, or if you'd like to add your own E representation, please visit 'abc wednesday'.
sorry for such a late post, I've been sick in bed with a fever and cold since late yesterday afternoon. my most recent photographs are way to wintry for how I'm feeling today so I went back to my archives from 2008 and found this variation of a photograph I had taken from august of that year. this is robert moses, probably my favorite beach on long island. I can't wait to see it again in warmer temperatures. meanwhile we are supposed to hit sixty degrees by the end of this week! for more on the umbrella line, please go here. to share a part of your world or just see more of others, please go to "that's my world tuesday". a big thanks to klaus for hosting with his team of helpers, sandy, wren, and sylvia.
today is mellow yellow monday so please head on over to drowsey monkey's mellow yellow monday meme and join in the fun. & happy valentine's day everyone!
notice the pile of snow in the lower left corner of this photograph. pretty grimy eh? I'd take pictures of the giant piles of grimy snow lying around but it's just too disgusting.at least the sun was out creating interesting winter shadows! if you'd like to see more shadows or if you want to join in the fun, please visit hey harriet'sshadow shot sunday meme. a big thank you to tracy for hosting shadow shot sunday.
I didn't try a slice so I will never know if the pizza here is any good. this was taken somewhere in manhattan last autumn. I purposely saved it for one of those times when I might need a weekend reflections photo.if you'd like to see more reflections or add your own to the mix, please check out james of newtown area photo's wonderful 'weekend reflections' meme. thanks James!
taken from my archives, this was rush hour after our last blizzard. me and and about two other people were the only crazies driving around. the snow doesn't look as pretty anymore but we did get blue skies yesterday and we're supposed to get some today as well. maybe more snow will melt! if you'd like to gaze at more wondrous skies from all around the world or if you'd like to add your own sky, please visit the skywatch friday meme, thanks to klaus and his team, sandy, wren, and sylvia.
haven't been here in awhile so I thought I'd take a ride around the pond, which as you can see, is completely covered. despite all the 'ugly' snow we have everywhere, there are some places that still look pretty.
am new york is a free new york city morning newspaper published by cablevision. these two boxes stand just outside the farmingdale train station making it convenient for commuters to catch up on their morning news. if you'd like to see other representations of the letter D, or if you'd like to add your own D representation, please visit 'abc wednesday'.
it was such a dreary grey day yesterday but when I passed this window it made me smile. only seven more days before valentines day! to share a part of your world or just see more of others, please go to "that's my world tuesday". a big thanks to klaus for hosting with his team of helpers, sandy, wren, and sylvia.
does anyone know what type of car this is? today is mellow yellow monday so please head on over to drowsey monkey's mellow yellow monday meme and join in the fun.
this was taken at the farmingdale train station the morning after our last big snow. I'm glad I caught some pretty shadows here, we've had nothing but grey skies and rain the last couple of days. not that I'm complaining - I've never been happier to see some rain! if you'd like to see more shadows or if you want to join in the fun, please visit hey harriet'sshadow shot sunday meme. a big thank you to tracy for hosting shadow shot sunday.
this is what it looks like after it's been hanging around for two months! if you'd like to see more reflections or add your own to the mix, please check out james of newtown area photo's wonderful 'weekend reflections' meme. thanks James!
this was yesterday's sunny blue sky over jericho turnpike around 4pm. you'd never know by looking at this photo that there are piles of snow everywhere. today is supposed to be filled with more sunshine. I am so psyched! if you'd like to gaze at more wondrous skies from all around the world or if you'd like to add your own sky, please visit the skywatch friday meme, thanks to klaus and his team, sandy, wren, and sylvia.
from february 4th through the 10th, the village east cinema in manhattan is hosting free admission to see this important film entitled 'home' by yann arthus-bertrand. mr. bertrand will also be at the cinema to meet anyone who would like to discuss his film. watch the short trailer here. the movie is also free on youtube as well. if you'd like to see other representations of the letter C, or if you'd like to add your own C representation, please visit 'abc wednesday'.
alexa from the amazing blog, 'the road is mine' left a comment on yesterday's 'long island daily photo' post about driving the morning after last weeks storm. it may be hard to believe but if you were able to dig yourself out, you could drive your car around town. by 8am the side roads weren't the least bit icy and the main roads were sanded and slushy. of course I drove around town about 5 miles an hour! I probably would have been nervous if it was still snowing or freezing rain - like what is expected between now and wednesday. I think icy slick roads are the worst & I hope that with today's weather, everyone gets to where they are going safely. to share a part of your world or just see more of others, please go to "that's my world tuesday". a big thanks to klaus for hosting with his team of helpers, sandy, wren, and sylvia.
You have heard of LI & its many stereotypes? You wonder if they may be true but wish not to risk visiting in the event that they are. Be bold then & visit me daily & I promise I will show you many sides of Long Island that you will be both amazed & inspired by.
