I haven't been on a sailboat in years and after the wonderful spontaneous excursion I took yesterday, I am now wondering - why?

beach at montauk

anticipating good weather I decided to take a trip out to montauk where I took my first picture of the beach this summer. the weather has been perfect and although the atlantic was freezing at first, once I got over the initial shock it was glorious.
today is abc wednesday and today's letter is X. what does this post have to do with the letter X you might ask? honestly, nothing! I forgot we did W already so I took this photo to represent the word 'wet' and now the only thing I can think of is how eXtra lucky I feel for having been able to get away for a little rest and relaxtion.

welcome summer...

Evening-Summer-Solstice-Light-and-Hydrangeas

in a way I dread this day because although today is only the second day of summer, it also marks the beginning of the days getting shorter! on a more positive note, we have been having wonderful weather - perfect for an evening walk after dinner.

a really big puddle

Summertime-Thunderstorm-on- Long-Island

it's amazing how one fifteen minute thunderstorm can cause a power failure and knock out cable service for nearly ten hours! some days I only have a small window of time where I can post to my blog and if I miss it, an entire day could pass before I get a chance to post again. due to last nights cable outage, today wound up being one of those days. I shouldn't complain - it would be much worse not having any electricity.

mondrian like skywatch at ikea

Mondrian-like-sky-at-Ikea

I was at ikea the other day looking for ideas on how to organize our storage space. as I was walking up the stairs I came upon this blue summer like sky just outside this ikea designed, mondrian like picture window. I still don't know what I'm going to do about our closets but I did get to play with my iphone's camera.

I was stuck in traffic while driving along route 110 when I noticed this sign. I'd love to know how old it is. lucky for me traffic was at a standstill so I could take its picture.

a very vibrant cherry

Cherry-Pie-Time

if you've been visiting here on a regular basis than you know it is a family tradition of mine to make cherry pie every spring once the cherries from our cherry tree are ripe. hopefully this year there will be enough fruit  to do so. sadly our tree has a fungus and though we are treating it we're not really sure what's going to happen. for now I am taking this one ripening cherry as a good sign.

the price of gas in farmingdale, new york

The-Price-of-Gas-at-Shasha-in-Farmingdale,-NY

when I first looked at the price of gas today, for a moment I actually thought we were lucky it went below $4. funny how easily I've become brainwashed into thinking that is a 'good' price for gas.
I do love this classic purple car though.

the weather in new york...

The-Weather-in-New-York-Skywatch

at the moment our sky looks nothing like this! a thunder shower just passed over us prompting little priscilla to hide out behind the commode. but this sky is a fair representation of what we have been experiencing here on long island the last several days. yes there have been ozone alerts but I refuse to complain about how hot it is because it could always look like this.

bon-bons by the pool

Trader-Joe's-Bon-Bons

now if only I had a pool! if you ever get the opportunity to sample trader joe's vanilla ice cream bon-bons with chocolate cookie crust, do so as soon as possible. they are only 60 sweet calories and if you are like me they will satisfy your chocolate, cookie, and ice cream cravings in just one tiny bite. it was extremely hot out yesterday so I felt totally justified in enjoying one (or three).

p.s. this is not an ad for trader joe's.

unique soho settee

A-Soho-Settee-at-Sici
I first posted about this store with the unusual name 'sici' one june about three years ago. I've noticed over the last three years they stopped changing their window displays as often as I was used to seeing. I took it as a sign of the economy. I am happy to report they have recently added a new line to their beautiful mosaics called 'design furnitures'.
why should this matter, you might ask? & no, I am not being paid to hawk their wares. I just noticed that in times of hardship like long economic recessions, (and supposedly we are heading down that path again according to yesterday's news reports) people get creative. if you visit their link, check out their video, it's funny.
otherwise, please visit 'abc wednesday' if you'd like to see other representations of the letter U, or if you'd like to add your own U representation.
stay cool everyone!

blue garden flowers, roses and busy little bees

Blue-Perennials-in-a-Spring-Garden

the cool thing about having perennials in your garden is being surprised when they come back even prettier than they were the year before. these two bees were actually so tiny I barely noticed them at first. the macro makes them appear so much bigger in this close up. does anyone know what the purpley blue flower is? I've only had them a couple of years and the name escapes me!

a green-like-spring reflection in soho new york

I shot this store front window and its reflection on thompson street right next to this reflection from a couple of weeks ago. the bright 'spring' like green next to the deep grey really caught my eye.

t is for tiny

when I think of priscilla I wonder how such a huge heart can fit into such a tiny body.
I'm a little late joining in but my brain felt like mush all day & I couldn't conjure up a good T post until about ten minutes ago- hence the blurry photo. if you'd like to see other representations of the letter T, or if you'd like to add your own T representation, please visit 'abc wednesday' hosted by the wonderful mrs. nesbitt.
