welcome home

this last sunday I had an opportunity to check out the intrepid sea, air & space museum. the intrepid foundation began when zachary fisher rescued it from scrapping, turning it into a museum to honor our nation's heroes.
in touring the air craft carrier you actually get the chance to stand outside on the massive flight deck amongst the planes and helicopters from the days when the ship was in active duty. you also see a beautiful view of the hudson river as well as manhattan's infamous sky line.
located in manhattan on 12th avenue and 46th street it is easy to get to from long island.
today is veterans day in america. I felt the above photo is significant in terms of what today is
all about.
go here
for an interesting article about the intrepid and also here for other personal stories from around the world.

Nice, in my family we don't celebrate any veterans day.

Perfect photos for Veteran's Day!
An out-of-town friend went to see the Intrepid a couple years ago and told me he stopped by an Irish restaurant near the pier for Scotch eggs afterwards -- hard boiled eggs wrapped in hamburger meat and deep fried. :-)

So did you get any Scotch eggs?

I love ships. Thanks for showing us.

The largest ship I've been on is the USS Massachusetts and that's just a Battleship, nothing so big as a carrier. Cool experience.
A very nice tribute on the day we share around the world,

Great pictures for My World, and a great opportunity for you. Also, very appropriate for the day.

How about that stretch limo in the foreground.

Lovely photos of the Intrepid. Haven't been there in years, when I took the little boy I used to babysit there. ;-)

cool stuff - I like how you can see the reflections in the glass of a mans face and other things.

Great choice for Veteran's Day! "Louis" is happy to see the Intrepid has been saved. "Louis" has a series on the Hornet. If you type "Hornet" into the search box, it will pull up the series.
