Babes in Toyland aka March of The Wooden Soldiers

March-of-The-Wooden-Soldiers-and-Childhood-Memories

it's no wonder I have a love for musicals. one of my most favorite memories as a child is watching "babes in toyland" on thanksgiving day and the music is PERFECT. when those soldiers began marching I couldn't stop myself from jumping up to march alongside my brothers just like stannie dum and ollie dee. in my mind we were right there with the soldiers. if you've never seen this before you might not want to click on the link since it is the ending of the movie. it amazes me how watching it again this morning brought me right back to how I felt watching it as a child. I remember how mad I got when my brothers claimed the soldiers weren't "real" soldiers and the discussion that ensued as they patiently explained how, first they were giant toy soldiers who magically "turned" into real soldiers as they marched toward their mission. listen to bo-peep's classic screams as silas barnaby tries to kidnap her at 1:09 - perfect old time hollywood. when ian was little, my mother in-law wanted to buy him a special christmas ornament. when she showed me what she had found I felt one of those moments in life where you feel like everything is connected in a funny sort of way. according to wikipedia the full version of "March of the Wooden Soldiers" is till shown on WPIX in new york city every thanksgiving and christmas day - and I can not wait to watch it again, with ian.
