parting is such sweet sorrow

has anyone ever seen the hugh grant movie "love actually"? remember the scene at the airport when he talks about how love is all around you there when you stop and take notice? so many people saying goodbye and so many people saying hello and lots of laughter and lots of tears.
I noticed this was true as I dropped off  a loved one yesterday morning.
it's not easy saying goodbye to someone you love, especially when they are traveling far away. but if you're lucky, you get to welcome them back.

It's funny I never notice any of that stuff at airports. :)

I faithfully watch Love Actually every year at Christmas. One of my favorite films, and yes, I do see 'love' at airports.

Hi, I too have noticed the love at airports. Great shot. It is your Birthday? Well, Happy Birthday!
That is my daughter-in-law's favorite movie!

It is so true there is always a lot of hugging and kissing going on at airports. Love is a good thing to see!

Is it your birthday? Much happiness! I've enjoyed getting to know you this year!

Yes, I have seen the movie six or seven times, the scenes at the airport are fantastic. (My favorite part of the movie is when Colin Firth declares his love in halting Portuguese).
And, last but not least: Happy Birthday, Lily!

I haven't been to an airport in years! We are planted out here..Nassau county is a big trip for us...and seems so city compared to where I am!

Happy Birthday, Lily!
Very nice shot, the light seems to be that of the late afternoon :-)
Angles and bustling people, your photo is all about the busy speed of life that makes it hard to "stop and take notice". Being dropped off, the traveler is thinking about the next step forward, not about what is being left behind. So yes, arriving is more fun than leaving!

i'm sure good memories of your loved one's visit will sustain you both till you meet again. ;-)

Very nice post. Similar thoughts have often run through my mind...I always wonder what the relationship is between people as the come and go, often amidst tears of sadness and/or tears of joy.

When I used to ride the N.Y. subways, I'd sometimes see the most unlikely couple holding hands and think, yes, there's a lid for every pot.

Lovely photo.

Used to love to see people off at the airport (and be seen off, natch), back before everything changed and you could go all the way to the gate. Still love the International Arrivals area—and also that movie. I'm with VP—Colin Firth trying to express his love in Portuguese is priceless. And Hugh Grant as the PM? Sure, why not? (This is me suspending disbelief.)
I love "Love Actually". One of my favorite movies.

Hope your love one comes home to you safe and soon.
