a steep spiral staircase

these were the stairs leading up to our bedroom at the pennsbury inn where I stayed overnight a couple of weeks ago. it's a nice bed and breakfast surrounded by an amazing garden created by the innkeeper. the house was built in the 1700's and it is suspected that the home was used as part of the underground railroad.
please visit my other long island daily photo blog here to see more of the pennsbury inn.
today is abc wednesday and the letter is S. please visit the abc wednesday meme page to find more S posts & join in the fun.

The commonplace turned into abstraction. Well caught.

Excellent capture of what would be a scary descent for my old joints and bones!! I'll bet the inn was interesting from wall to wall. ~karen

If it were used in the UGRR, there are people who would be interested in knowing that.

Spiral staircases are not my favorites, but I do think the shot is great.

Maybe I need a sweet fix, but these look like Hershey's chocolate bars.... Great shot of the stairs...or chocolate!!

I love spiral staircases in photos, but I hate them in person, especially narrow, steep ones like this. I keep bumping my head! ;)

The inn sounds like a lovely place though.

Very interesting photo, I too would be afraid to go down that staircase, I have trouble with straight stairs. Old buildings and their detail is fun to see, and to learn the history would be equally as fun.

What a terrific capture, Lily! The spiral staircase makes such a great abstract shot. Interesting place! Definitely one I would love to visit with such an interesting history! Hope your week is going well! Enjoy!

Great shot. I love the way old staircases look in photos. I went to the Inn's website and it looks like a great place with lots of history.

I love this shot. Stairwells are just so neat. Lines converging and light reflecting at different angles. Also, I, too, have eaten bread from that bakery -- I can hardly imagine it woudl close for a day. It's an institution.

The composition in the Stairwell Shot is amazing! Love it. And now that I think about it, Bibi is right. It does look like chocolate bars!

Terrific composition, Lily—and a good choice for S! (Did make me a bit dizzy though.) The inn looks like a wonderful place for a getaway.

I love those twisty stairs. These are even neater b/c they square twisty! I've never seen that before.
