gilgo beach

The-Day-After-Hurricane-Irene-at-Gilgo-Beach-LongIsland-2011

this shot was taken the day after hurricane irene late in the afternoon. ian and I headed for robert moses only to find it closed along with all of the other beaches along ocean parkway. we managed to get onto this one by pulling the car over to the side of the road and climbing across the paths through the dunes. it wasn't crowded but I did get a strange feeling like everyone was doing what I came there to do - I was checking on our beloved beach to make sure it was still there. and as you can see, it is.
today is abc wednesday and today's letter is the letter G. if you'd like to see other representations of the letter G, or if you'd like to add your own G representation, please visit 'abc wednesday'.

Glad to read that your beach is intact. Your picture shows how beautiful Gilgo beach is in the evening sun.
I used to surf Gilgo Beach, some 40 years ago. Then moved out west.
Beautiful capture.. Thanks for the memories!
never been to that beach, only Jones Beach, for which I have great affection

The Beach looks fine and the photograph is beautiful. Is Long Beach ok? I was very worried about my daughter's house. She said the water was 1 block from her place. (She rents it out).

Beautiful beach, love the sparkles, but there were still some rolling waves a little way out, it appears.
Glad you and Ian are okay.

Sorry you weren't able to go to Moses, but SO glad to see that Gilgo (the beach where much of my misspent youth was actually misspent) is still in good shape.

a very classic image of a beach. Lovely shot!

I haven't been to Gilgo Beach yet. Long Island is both big and small!
