I drove into manhattan last saturday to see 'freud's last session', a special treat for my son ian who wanted to see the play. as I waited at a red light I noticed this giant sculpture in front of the seagram building. I wondered what it could be. I didn't have time to backtrack so when I got home I did a quick google search and found a wonderful blog called 'nyc loves nyc' that dedicated an entire post to the subject here.
meanwhile, today is mellow yellow monday and I believe this teddy bear is a perfect fit for all things mellow. please visit drowsey monkey if you'd like to add your own bit of mellowness.

See, you would never ever stop at a red light in B'ham Alabama and see a giant "yeller" bear with a reading light sitting right there. Geez.

I checked out the link you provided, and decided I think I like it (a little indecisive).
Certainly perfect for the Mellow Yellow meme.

Nice composition! :)
I got your twitter, by the way. I'm one of your followers.
That's too funny at first I thought it was a big lemon ha ha
Wow....driving into Manhattan is in itself a challenge. That's one fun bear.
Now I am thinking I need to go over there and get a shot of my own!
Only in NYC could you see things llike the Yellow Bear Lamp sculpture. I went in a few weeks ago to the dag Hammarskjold Plaza and was surropunded by silver and gold life-sized sculptures of people. They sat on benches and stood around waiting for something to happen. Its all good. Cheers Lori
I'm kind of speechless. It looks vaguely edible.
I would never have guessed it was a Teddy bear, Lily! Thanks for solving the mystery for us!
I hope you did OK in the hurricane. I was away 10 days and missed it all! My husband and Mom were home in Brooklyn, however, so i worried the whole time. Thankfully we did not flood or lose power.
nice capture!
I wondered at first if it was a normal-sized bear and the perspective of the photo just made it look like a gigantic Easter Peep.
I'm surprised to see that this is still here. I showed it in May, after it had been sold—guess something this size is not that easy to move? And I like your "driving by" perspective —way more interesting than straight on :~}
I love this picture but there's something a tad freaky about that big bear, no? At first I thought he was made of marshmallow. Then I read he's made of...bronze? Love the angle from which you shot him. xo, m
ha, I love Park Avenue South. There is a cool vibe there.
That sounds like an interesting play. Was it good?
