I couldn't even begin to try and pronounce this pastry's name, but the internet can! check it out here. my mother in-law said this was her mother's favorite. last sunday we ordered them in homage to her while visiting her old nieghborhood in the williamsburg section of brooklyn.

Oh, now you have done it. I wondered if they could be made at home and the answer is "not in my home!" Just kidding. I have accomplished macarons through many, many batches approaching the challenge scientifically. I am not sure that I can take on these delightful Italian pastries.

So, I will look forward to finding authentic sfogliatelle in my travels, and you have given me a starting point!
