a fire in farmingdale and a very large spider web

sorry for my lack of posts lately. to say I've been distracted by ian being home is putting it mildly. these photos aren't the best of quality but they do represent a slice of summer activity here on long island. for instance; evening bike rides and spider web building. last night's nearly full moon prompted one such summer evening bike ride. at my first opportunity I looked towards the night sky only to discover a white plume of smoke rising towards the moon! I was more than a little concerned since I do have family and friends that live in the direction the smoke was coming from. ian and I rode our bikes over to the scene to find out it was someone's shed that suffered a small explosion. thankfully no one was hurt.

then there was this web from a few nights ago. I am sure these spiders have been living in our backyard since we've moved here (I've heard stories from the previous tenants). when I woke up the next morning there were two more built within inches of each other
