mushrooms in the backyard

they literally appear overnight. I wish I was skilled in time lapse photography so I could film their rapid growth. still, whenever I discover something like this out in my garden, it seems almost as if it is a whole separate world, like a secret place where the fairies like to be.

Mushrooms are fascinating because they grow so fast. They are also very photogenic. This is like a picture from a fairy tale.

Wonderful photo. It takes me back to my childhood, when a friend and I did believe in fairies, and were sure we had found a fairy ring in the woods nearby.

It's the simple wonders of nature like this that could easily have been the inspiration for simple fairy tales, folklore, and legends. Beautiful Picture!

it *is* a beautiful photo! almost like a rich sepia print, without photoshop! I love the enlarged version, you can see the little baby shrooms of tomorrow just pushing up through the bark chips....

Ingesting some mushrooms will cause a person to see fairies. Sorry, couldn't restrain myself, lovely picture. :-)

I think everyones comments made me smile more than this photo did, & I really liked this photo, thanks guys.

Islipian, thanks for pointing out what was going on in the enlarged photo. I can't believe it, but somehow I missed that very important detail. There looks like so many of them pushing through. After todays rain there must be a whole crop of them out there.
Anon, your very funny.
thanks everyone for stopping by.

It is a secret place where fairies, gnomes and leprechauns frolic. :-)

How else would those mushrooms grow out of thin air overnight.
