photo courtesy of ianis always an adventure. my husband used to tell our son that if you opened the little doors on the walls inside the tunnel you could let the water in from the east river.
it costs $5 to access the city this way. most people use an E-ZPass displaying it in their car window allowing them supposedly expeditious payment. I prefer to pay cash. and now that most people have the pass, I find the cash lines are usually quicker. just make sure to watch for the "cash only" signs to direct you to the proper lanes .

Very nice shot, Lily. This tunnel seems well lightened. I wonder how long does it take to reach the town through the tunnel.
I don't know for sure Pietro, but it feels like less than 5 minutes.
reminds me the Madrid M-30 tunnels the largest urban tunnels in the world (I think) are 16km long...
I don't really like tunnels , I wouldn't like to get stuck inside... ;)but nice shot !
Great picture!
I used to think the same thing about the water coming in when I was younger.
I haven't been to the city in ages.
Wow, I thought it would be much more than $5 by now. I've been taking the Queensborough Bridge for years - it's so lovely, and no children can open little doors, flooding the tunnel, and drowning me!
Of course, I do have a weird driving-on-bridges thing, where I have to REALLY concentrate on driving STRAIGHT, not OFF THE SIDE.
Haven't been in this tunnel in years. You can let the water in by opening the doors? LOL! Love it! ;-)
Paz
Please tell me you weren't driving and photographing at the same time. :-)
Islipian, it's funny how we humans cope isn't it?
Actually Ming I forgot to give my son credit for the photo. He got tired of me taking pictures while driving so now he'll take some photos when I ask him too!
