fire hydrant and shadows

we have a rule in our neighborhood where, whenever it snows whoever has a fire hydrant in front of their house has to shovel a pathway to it in case the firemen have to come and hook a hose up to it in order to put out a fire. I thought this yellow one looked pretty cheery.

this post is a part of "hey harriet's" shadow shot sunday meme hosted by tracy. thanks tracy! please go here if you'd like to participate or see more shadow shots.

That is the most sunshiny hydrant I have ever seen. I have taken to looking at fire hydrants lately because I found out that in Elmira, NY, where they manufactured fire engines for a long time, there was also another company that specialized in fire hydrants. The fire hydrant company is still going strong. So, that begs the question...why would Long Island, NY have hydrants from Alabama, when there is a factory not far from them?
Nice light. Good shadows!

What a terrific shadow shot, Lily! And I agree with Christine, that is definitely the most sunshiny hydrant I've ever seen, too! Love it! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

We have that rule, too (about clearing snow from fire hydrants). Funny term, "Hydrant." Not "valve" or "outlet" or "wetter" or "soaker."

Anyway, I'm very familiar with Farmingdale and many places on LI. And I know it's pronounced "Long Guyland" :)

The humble fire hydrant casts a shadow that looks a little like a mini castle! Beautiful with the stark white of the snow!

This is the nicest hydrant I have ever seen. The light is glorious and the colors perfect.

That's the sweetest fire hydrant I've ever seen. Ours look nothing like that & I don't think we have yellow ones. Only red. That one looks like a stumpy little person with arms & a funny hard hat! It's a beautiful photo of it too! Enjoy the rest of your weekend :)

Even the most simple subjects can be a work of art sometimes.
Why is this hydrant
so yellow? Do I see tracks
of dogs in the snow?

Very cheery! Just looked out the window to see what color ours are in Brooklyn. Red—and not so bright.

that *is* a pretty cheery hydrant! i think the hydrants here are black. not so cheery. and quite tricky and sneaky in fact...as you drive slowly down the street looking for a parking spot...finally you spy a little space...and sometimes you don't notice that OH! there's a fire hydrant there! until you're prcatically INTO the spot.

what i've learned about parking here, is that if you SEE empty spots, they're usually empty for a REASON (driveway, fire hydrant, pile of snow, dead cow, etc).
What a wonderful picture/shadow.
Very clever.
Happy SSS.

What a colorful shot, but boy how do you find it with all that snow...and more on the way. We're supposed to get at least 6-10 inches overnight...it's a white-out right now...but I heard a robin yesterday, so there's hope on the horizon!!!

I'm glad everyone liked this photo.

Christine, I wish I knew the answer to that question. Anyone know?

Blogitse, thanks for reminding me about the red one.

Magical, you are very funny!

Miss B, I have heard that many hydrants in the 5 boroughs don't even work yet they take up precious parking spaces!
yes, that is a happy shot! How are you lilly? we're a bit late in popping over, but we've been burried under lots of projects and the evil inventory for taxes - yulk!
Have a lovely rest-of-the-week!
