two weeks

having grown up on long island it's hard to imagine not going to the beach in the summertime, camping in my backyard or picnicking outside in a beautiful state park.  I was reminded of the fact that not everyone gets to have these experiences when I visited one of my favorite blogs yesterday, where kitty of new york portraits wrote about the fresh air fund and posted the video you can see below. since 1877, the fresh air fund has been raising dollars to send low income inner-city kids to summer camp or place them in homes with host families for one or two weeks of summertime fun. investing in the children of the world is like investing in a hopeful future. please watch this compelling video and if you can, please make a donation to the fresh air fund. & if you donate before june 30th, a generous sponsor will match your donation!

Wow. I think my brain knew this in a logical way but never really thought about it. Thank you for posting!

Good point to go with your great photo. I don't go to the sea every year, but get fresh air.

I've never been to Long Island. This photo is very tempting!!! Especially since our beaches will soon be covered with oil. :(

Thanks for posting about this cause and the reference, dear Lily!

I'm certain the kids who get to stay in Long Island for a bit of the summer consider themselves incredibly lucky. It's such a peaceful alternative to the baking asphalt and relentless humidity in the city.
Great photo and a great cause to match it!

Lovely photo. The video reminded me of all that I take for granted as I live in the country and have a home at the beach. I often forget to stop and think of the children and their families that don't have that opportunity. Fresh air is a great cause.

My childhood summers were spent right there—and I hope I never took it for granted. You obviously didn't.

Great video. Great post. Every child deserves a couple of weeks like this. And yes, I do believe they can change a child's world.

Great beach scene!
«Louis» was not aware of the Fresh Air Fund, much less that it has been around for so long!
