two weeks
having grown up on long island it's hard to imagine not going to the beach in the summertime, camping in my backyard or picnicking outside in a beautiful state park. I was reminded of the fact that not everyone gets to have these experiences when I visited one of my favorite blogs yesterday, where kitty of new york portraits wrote about the fresh air fund and posted the video you can see below. since 1877, the fresh air fund has been raising dollars to send low income inner-city kids to summer camp or place them in homes with host families for one or two weeks of summertime fun. investing in the children of the world is like investing in a hopeful future. please watch this compelling video and if you can, please make a donation to the fresh air fund. & if you donate before june 30th, a generous sponsor will match your donation!

I'm certain the kids who get to stay in Long Island for a bit of the summer consider themselves incredibly lucky. It's such a peaceful alternative to the baking asphalt and relentless humidity in the city.

«Louis» was not aware of the Fresh Air Fund, much less that it has been around for so long!
