garrison keillor and a prairie home companion at town hall
last saturday, garrison keillor was at the town hall in manhattan for his live performance of a prairie home companion, a variety show that airs on public radio every saturday night from 6-8pm eastern time. I've listened to this radio show on and off over the years-usually if I happen to be in the kitchen when it's on. nothing prepared me for how much fun it would be to watch this show being performed live. keillor works the stage like a master storyteller tying the assorted performances of music, song and words together with his trademark narration. I felt like I was in the presence of an american treasure and also grateful I didn't miss this experience before it was no longer around. if you ever get the chance to see phc, do it, keillor is retiring from performing in phc in 2013. this saturday, prairie home companion will be performing out of tornado ravaged st. louis.

I'd read about his retirement, but thought it was sooner. 2013 will give his fans plenty of time to listen to, and maybe even see him.
Good for you!

To see the show live is of course something completly different.
As a UU I enjoy his jabs at my chosen faith, he is usually right on.
