more from long beach

Long-Beach-Neighborhood-After-Hurricane-Sandy-2012,NY

yesterday anthony helped his brother rip out all of the floors and sub-floors in his house over in long beach. hurricane sandy has produced such an enormous amount of wreckage making it impossible for the town to pick up trash the usual way. a very large dump truck now roams the neighborhood using a mechanical claw picking up huge piles of household debris throughout the day. anthony captured the scene with his iphone.

That is really tragic for your area. I guess each one of us in the world experience our share of nature's wrath, we had flooding a few times this and last years. It is good me and my family are spared. It is good you are okay. It is more difficult if not only properties but life is affected.

So true Andrea! There really is no place to hide from nature. & despite the heartbreak of homelessness all around us at least we are able to help each other.

Terribly painful to watch this wreckage. I pray that it will not happen again. Never.

Yikes, that's dreadful, and I am so sorry. Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide.

What a terrible sight, but so good to know everyone is helping one another: a real sense of community and togetherness is often the only benefit of such a tragedy.
Glad you are healthy, however.

Thank you for posting these pictures. Our daughters house on Broadway sure sustained a lot of damage. (Her family lives in Nevada and husband is now there trying to organize the repairs). What a mess.

There is fear now about disease because the wreckage can't be moved fast enough from the effected areas. PGma

So sorry to see this. How is Anthony's brother holding up?

wow, thanks everyone for your concern and well wishes.
Mari, My brother in-law is doing well all things considered. As devastated as he is, it seems like you don't have to look far to find someone who has lost so much more.

When I'm feeling bummed about my mom's house, I think about the folks in Long Beach—and they probably think about the folks in Breezy Point. I've heard it said that you're never given more trouble than you can handle. Maybe Mother Nature thought about that when she decided to dump this storm on the famously tough citizens of New York and New Jersey.
