bike trail

this is one of my favorite places to ride my bike. if I take it from bethpage park to sunrise highway and back again, it's about 15 miles. it's a great path with a few small hills to get your heart pumping. there are cyclists, runners and walkers. the speed limit is 15 mph and most cyclists will warn you as they pass with a friendly, "on your left", before they take their place in front of you. these boys looked like they were spending a typical summer day together just riding their bikes. I know, school has begun, but summer is definitely not over yet!
what is your favorite exercise?

My favorite exercise: sleeping.

But seriously, I walk a lot, or I try to.

I love to walk. Can't do much any more, but I always hiked everywhere whenever I could.

I lived in Massapequa for 20 years, and have done the bike path a few times.

Lily,
Thank you for the comment to my chickadee photo. The Elizabeth Morton Preserve has been a favorite for many for a long time. Just walk anywhere along the trails and extend your hand with sunflower seeds and the birds will come. I not only have still photos of the birds, but also video.

I noticed your site mentioned in Newsday. Congratulations!

I have had a Long Island blog since 2005, Long Island Woman, where I post photos and tell about my daily life. I also have a few other blogs where I just post photos and don't write as much. Over the years, I've written less and less, just focusing more on the photography.

Thanks again for the comment. I will have to stop by here more often.

Sincerely,
Alida

You mean, "bike slash HORSE trail"! Back in the...gosh, early 80s? Maybe 1979? My girlfriend and I rode our HORSES from Bethpage Stables (the original one on Round Swamp Rd, right next to the golf course), down the bike trail, through Brady Park, ACROSS Sunrise Hwy...then we jutted east a couple blocks to ride through the high school field, then down Harbor Lane to my house.

My parents were away, and we kept the horses in the 2-car garage overnight (having brought feed and supplies home with us on the days before).

I always felt bad, the next morning, we were grazing the horses (Elmer and Copper) in my backyard....I heard the little girl that lived behind us run into her house, slamming the door behind her, yelling, "MOMMY! MOMMY! There are HORSES in the backyard!" and hearing the distinct sound of a SLAP! and the mother yelling, "DON'T TELL STORIES - GO TO YOUR ROOM!"

Poor kid. I didn't know her name...I think their last name was...shoot, I can't think of it, it was the name of a famous old boxer - so, if there's a woman reading this, who lived in Harbor Green in the 70s-80s, and you remember thinking you saw horses in my backyard? You DID :-)

Ming, that's a good one!

I love walking too Bobbie.

Thanks for stopping by Alida. I hope everyone here stops by your site, your photos are beautiful.

Islipian, You really are very funny! That is a great story. I'd love to have a Long Island Daily Photo of you and your girlfriend riding across Sunrise Highway on your horses. What a trip!
BTW, I took horseback riding lessons when I was in the Girl Scouts at the very stable you are talking about.

"Louis" would like to bike along this inviting trail. One small problem: there is some difficulty with hooves and handlebars....

I LOVE riding my bike here too! The horse trails are still there, all dirt and sand instead of concrete. I walk there too sometimes! Just a nice bit of nature and quiet time.
