courageous road crew

I was surprised to see these men tarring this road in the middle of rush hour. they were right in the center of a major intersection at glen cove road and jericho turnpike. I'd be a nervous wreck if I had to deal with traffic in this way-they must have nerves of steel. driving on long island can sometimes be akin to fearing for your life, never mind being a pedestrian in the middle of things.

this post is a part of my world tuesday. to share a part of yours or just see more of others, please go here, thanks to klaus for hosting with his team of helpers, sandy, wren, fishing guy, sylvia and louise.

Fantastic shot as always, Lily! And you're so right! I wonder the same thing about the road crews working on the freeways around Seattle! Incredible, I would have already run the other way! Great post!

Enjoy!

You always have so curious eye for stuff happening around there. I love that.

I have been working on that kind of road construction sites couple of summers and after few minutes the feeling of doing road work in the middle of a city or busy road disappears. The worker just has to focus on the job at hand which often requires full attention. Everything else disappears.

I think the road workers get used to it. Interesting photo.

What a great photo!
It is amazing how nonchalant they can be in harrowing situations.

Seems like this was the season for traffic cones

I'd have trouble concentrating on my work if I was them. You are right, that can be a dangerous job. And they have to do it in all types of weather too. Hopefully people are keeping an eye out for them!

Fantastic picture that is. I wonder too how they dare do this during busy hours.

I wondered about that, too. So, I usually drive extra careful when I'm passing a road crew. Although they seem to be very used to all the traffic whizzing by. Great shot.

Lily,

Isn't this the way it always is??!!! Tear up the road when the traffic is the heaviest. Arggggh. I guess every city "decorates" with orange barrels!
Wonderful, fun shot!

Great shot, Lily! You wouldn't catch me working on a major intersection during rush hour. People are nuts when they get behind the wheel!

Great shot, and I agree its a dangerous place to be working, several people have been killed doing road works like this in NZ.

It does take guts to do that kind of work.
