and the darkness descends...

please click on photo to see night time details

this photo was taken around 6pm-ish last night. the street was so quiet it was depressing. it was as if everyone packed it in for the night and began their five month hibernation ritual. I know, I am probably exaggerating a tad bit but I do not like the short days of the year and the days are just going to continue getting shorter, at least around these parts, until sometime around mid to late december depending upon which latitude you are at in the northern hemisphere. you can read more about that here if you'd like. for now, my greatest consolation is the days do start to get longer just as the winter season begins, so at least we have longer days when it starts to freeze. how do you feel about the shorter days?

I just hate it when it gets dark so early. We often have after-school meetings at school, and my poor pup hardly sees the light of day, except when she can go out on the porch.

I hate the shorter days. I crave the sunlight. My youngest daughter is effected by it so much - she finally moved to California. They are think of relocating back east, and I am wondering how it will be for her here again.

Lily, I hate the shorter days. They always seem to make me sleepy earlier and not want to go out after dinner. Give me summer's long sunny days anytime!

Go Yankees! :-)

Hugs, Pat

I must say that I'd rather be visiting New York in a warmer season, especially since our own weather has warmed up just a tad - we had temperatures above 100 degrees yesterday - and our days are lengthening. But hey, NY is NY, right!

I'm with you, Lily—I'm already looking forward to the return of the light. Don't know how the people in, say, Sweden or Greenland deal with months of almost total darkness. (Actually, I do know: I lived in southern Spain in winter, and the Scandinavians arrived en masse.)
