happy halloween?

I wanted to post a halloween photo today, perhaps a photo of ian in costume when he was little - but it didn't seem appropriate. I'm reminded of 911. the eerie quiet, the uncertainty, the loss. there is utter devastation all around us, and though this is no consolation to those who have lost a loved one, the numbers are small by comparison. many people have no electricity, water, or shelter, or they simply can not get to work and every day they can not get to work, they don't get paid.
so instead, I posted this cartoon form "the new yorker," because for me, this cartoon epitomizes what it means to be a new yorker; although we wholly appreciate other cities throughout the world, we can't help but love new york the most. we new yorkers have a great spirit, and I believe we will get through this.
god bless us everyone. we need all the help and prayers and positive energy we can get.

I understand. "My city" is Vancouver, BC, even though I now live in Alberta.

Absolutely. I think every NYer would agree with you. We can't help but compare cities with home. It's a nice size, too. I wouldn't like to live in a huge metropolis like Shanghai or Beijing.

I feel badly for the little kids. Last year they had a snowstorm just before Halloween. I hope in the light of this storm, everyone can at least count the blessings they do have.
I'm glad you didn't have any damage from Hurricane Sandy, Lily! We were very fortunate also. Long Beach and Babylon were hit hard out there in LI. So much devastation everywhere --very sad
