N is for nostalgia

thanks to my son ian, he managed to get a decent picture of this very unique car as we were driving on the seaford oyster bay expressway last saturday. does anyone have any idea what type of car this is? I've probably said it before, but I wish our modern cars had this much character.
this post is a part of abc wednesday and today's letter is N.  please visit the abc wednesday meme page to join in the fun.
p.s. if you click on this photo to enlarge it, you'll see an interesting license plate too.

Great composition for such a quick pic! I would say that this car is from the 30s or 40s...if I remember, I'll get my husband to take a look. He would know in a jiffy :-)

It sure looks like a Chevy to me...perhaps early 50's My friend had a 1955 Chevy that looked a lot like that one.

I never was any good at identifying cars, but this one is marvelous! Congratulations to your son for a great shot!

It's hard for me to tell without being able to see the grill and headlights, but if I were guessing I would say it's a 49 or 50 Mercury. That color was a stock color for Mercury then. It looks like it's been chopped, so that makes it even harder to identify for sure.

Whatever it is, I'd say it's Neato!

Nice pic, tell your son nice job!

On behalf of the ABC Wednesday Team, Thanks for participating this week. Hope you can join us again next week.

I am not familiar with the car either, but it sure looks like a great asset for a nostalgic movie producer.

I have no idea either, but there's room enough for a mighty large picnic basket in the back!!

This is one cool car. No idea what it is. Coincidence: I also have a mystery car on my post!
Great N and great Photo! Wish I had thought of nostalgia. Love it! Great view of Long Island-- one I didn't know existed!

I am not an automobilophile, but when I see automobiles like this (cars just sounds disrespectful), I will have to admit to a sparkle in my eyes and on occasion even a bit of drool!

Those were the days...

What a great car and a great picture - your son takes after his mom. I do not know what it is but would love to own it.

Cool car, whoever was behind the wheel!

We don't see this often anymore, it's quite interesting to come across one on the road.

I'm not sure what it is either, but I love the color!

Nice catch, Ian! We had a Chevy that looked much like this one when a was very young—around 1950.
Great choice for N week!

Not a car guy. Looks 1950s, but that's a guess. What a color.

That was a great capture by your son. My husband says he thinks it has been modified, it could have started out as a Chevy.
