back to reality, Nor'easter hits Long Island

this is what it looked like outside earlier today. by 5:45 pm large wet snowflakes mixed with sleet shut down the long island expressway (a major thoroughfare used by commuters) - perfect timing for rush hour. later penn station was closed and then finally reopening by 8pm tonight. for the last two hours I have been hearing snow plows & fire sirens.
what about all of our displaced neighbors who have no homes, no schools & no workplace? I am afraid they will be more devastated because of this storm. yet if you follow the news there are many people from all over this great country helping those affected by sandy. thank you great country.
I found this red cross link today that lists places including some on long island for those who need food & other services. please pass it on to those in need.
also, if you are so inclined please repeat after me, dear lord, please make this storm go away, and please restore those who do not have power, amen.

Hi, you are so privileged to be spared of the wrath of Sandy, and can still post here despite the odds! So i repeated with you the prayer, and hope everybody can find warmth through friends homes and more Angels!

And so repeated, dear Lily. What a double whammy ~ I hope you get some relief from the elements over there soon, and services are restored quickly. Take care.

Yes Andrea, I do feel very very lucky, especially since we have many trees around our property. & though it does feel good to help out, for the most part people who were hit here the hardest literally have to start over. Yesterday I got an email from our power company stating that 781,000 people have had their power restored with approximately 149,000 remaining w/o power. Except, when the electric co. reports about restoring power, they don't include entire neighborhoods since they can not receive power due to the water damage in the electrical systems in their homes.
Now with this storm there are more outages. My brother who was w/o power until last Saturday just lost power again. so I think I can speak for many when I say thank you!

thank you Shell!

Daryl, it is a good thing - the less problems for anyone helps us all! it's hard not to have survivors guilt but everyone I've talked to or read about who are most affected by Sandy want so desperately for things to return to normal - it's so unsettling.

I was thinking of you as we watched the news last night. To be hit twice by storms in so short a time, and to escape the fate so many have suffered, is a miracle. Somebody up there likes you, I'm sure.
Keep up the good work, and never mind survivor's guilt.

Yes, and your brother has been told he will not get power until next Monday, they're bringing Nipper over until power is restored. The animals suffer too. PGma

Makes you wonder what's next, doesn't it? At least the forecast is for warm and sunny this weekend.
