rose garden
farmingdale state college's department of ornamental horticulture prides itself on being the top school for study in the northeast. while riding my bike around campus, I found this teaching garden quite accidentally. it actually seemed like a genuine secret garden. I knew a garden existed on the campus but I hadn't been there in years and never knew there was another entrance. also, I remembered the roses, but I didn't remember seeing the abundance of other separate distinct gardens. as I continued to follow the different paths, I found little rooms with a wide variety of beautiful lush plantings. ever since my discovery, I make sure to include a visit back to the gardens whenever I am out and about riding my bicycle with my son, who especially loves the reflecting pool garden. a separate 'room' by itself, the pool includes two benches on either end of it where people can relax in the shade or pose for pictures.

Thanks Pietro.

The few times I've grown roses, I've been met with disappointment. They need so much care. In addition to fertilizer and pruning, they need the correct amount of water and attention must be paid to insect damage and fungi!
I gave up!

The gardens are open to the public? I'd love to go there and take a stroll.
This one is in the Retiro Park.

This sounds like a great place to visit. Have you ever been the the New York Botanical Garden in The Bronx? They too, claim they are the nation's best horticultural faculty. But most of all, you can spend a really great day in the different gardens and the oldest forest in NY.
& I think I better check out the NY Botanical Garden. I had no idea there was such an old forest there--Thanks Eliane.
& thanks for the tip Morty.
did you know they had a cabin way up the hill ... I don't even recall how we got up there, went to a party up there back in 1975. wonder if that is still there.
anyway, thanks for this post, I am definitely going to check this out in the next couple of weeks.
