allium are members of the onion family & depending on their variety, the flower heads range in size from an inch to a foot! supposedly the stems give off only a slight onion odor when cut or crushed. I love them just as they are seen displayed here at the farmingdale state college teaching garden. isn't this a wonderful scene? please visit "today's flowers" if you'd like to see more beautiful blooms or if you'd like to add your own.
Oh!Oh! My computer is playing tricks. I cant see the picture. I will come back in a few hours to view it. Thanks for visiting my blog. I'm a new follower.
What an awesome exquisite scene! Onions here don't flower so i haven't seen one like that, wonderful indeed. The slightly blurred umbel at the left is also worth a close-up shot. The colors made them more alluring. thank you.
You have heard of LI & its many stereotypes? You wonder if they may be true but wish not to risk visiting in the event that they are. Be bold then & visit me daily & I promise I will show you many sides of Long Island that you will be both amazed & inspired by.

What a beautiful lavender scene. When the page opened my first reaction was, Wow!
You must be a night-owl, either that or you've moved to the west coast, which I'm sure you haven't.
love the crazy space-orb-like alliums! I've never been to the Farmingdale garden, someday I'll have to make a point of visiting.
What a fine image, Lily! These flowers are really beautiful and, I should say, funny too.
Happy new week!

That is a great picture! I love the purples and would love to wander down that path and enjoy this garden!
You bet it's a wonderful scene....my favorite color, too.
Oh my, they are strikingly beautiful!
Beautiful and quirky, the way they are bobbing around everywhere ~ it is a wonderful scene, Lily!
Simply amazing!
Happy Monday.
Beautiful photo. I have never seen so many of these unusual, gorgeous flowers in one spot.
That is so beautiful, lovely colors. Nothing like nature's paintings. PGma
Gorgeous purple color!
Thanks for this one, Lily. I love alliums—and you've really captured some beauties here!
I thought they were illium .. no matter, they are so pretty
What a beautiful garden and what a wonderful scene of lovely blue flowers! Great photo, indeed!
I love these big bright blooms. Great photo!
Nice shot! My grandmother use to have these in her backyard and they were always one of my favorites.

these are quite hilarious and remind me of Dr Seuss. My mom used to plant these and I agree about the onion smell. I always thought they were veggies.
Just in time for the World Cup 2010! lol
This photo is SO COOL!! It seems almost alien to have that many alium(s) around. Great shot!
I love them! Purple lollipops!
