while reading some incredibly moving september 11th tributes this morning I was reminded of this photo I took while up in our plane circling manhattan last june. I remember thinking at the time of all the instances I have looked at the spot where the twin towers once stood since 911, only to find out they still aren't there, it really did happen.
this post is dedicated to the memory of all those who perished and all of those still suffering the effects of september 11th - we will never forget.

Fantastic picture Lily!
Such a marvelous shot, Lily! Every time I see a photo or film that shows NYC skyline I feel that shock all over again -- they're not there!

I remember this picture. I either saw it on your blog, or one very similar from another plane. It is a beautiful shot. And your tribute is beautiful too.
Amen.
I looked at all the sites you listed and am so moved by what I saw and read. Thank you for including my Journal...I am honored.
Thanks for remembering 9-11 on your post today. I will never forget. Searching now for the tribute you spoke of. . .
I came here from Sylvia Over the Hill blog sicne you mentioned you have a 9-11 post today and I wanted to read it. I have one also as our city had a rememberance ceremony for 9-11 today down at the Quay on the Columbia River. Maybe you would like to read about it. . .
I commented to Bobbie that when the towers were there I paid little attention, didn't like them, thought they were ugly
now - there is a tug at my heart every time I don't see them
thank you Lily for your lovely comment and for including me in your list
peace
Whenever we watch a movie with NYC in it...our comments are either.."this was before 9.11 or after...depending on the skyline. We were delivering(truck drivers then) to a base in Texas and our radio was coming in pretty bad..when we heard it we thought it was just another updated "War of The Worlds"..couldn't believe it when we were able to turn on the TV. Nice photo

I started my journalism career at Dow Jones, which at the time was in the set of buildings just down the street from the WTC. I used to think those buildings were so ugly, but I couldn't imagine looking out the office window and not seeing them.
Emotional picture; poignant commentary! Well done!
beautiful tribute
Amazing shot, Lily. When my kids were little, we used the towers to help teach them how to tell compass directions (because they were the very biggest, most visible landmark south of our house).
Fabulous photo Lily! My hart still aches daily when I see the big hole in the sky where the towers use to stand.
