there goes the high school football team...

I sat at a red light as the team crossed jericho turnpike. it reminded me of the recent news about football players and head trauma. I worry for the players, especially the young ones. so I was glad to read about how if athletes will at least take less hits, like in practice for instance, they can significantly reduce the number of hits to the head which is important when you consider how many times a player gets hit over a long career. I found the article on the new york times nfl blog here.

this post is a part of my world tuesday. to share a part of yours or just see more of others, please go here, thanks to klaus for hosting with his team of helpers, sandy, wren, fishing guy, sylvia and louise.

I read that article, too—very disturbing. Have to think that if I had a son who wanted to play football, I'd be more than torn. Aside from all that, love this photo.

All those colourful walking numbers make a beautiful photo, traumatized or not.
That's a lot of players! I worried when my son played soccer in High School, as they headed a lot of balls, and also it could get quite rough contact wise. Thankfully he never suffered a concussion.

I'm just glad my sons only played soccer, never cared for football and they're both long out of their teens -- that being said, I love the photo, Lily! Great post for the day!

Have a good week!

Great photo, Lily! I worry too ~ and in Australian Football League, they wear no padding, no helmets, nada. Footballers' parents all over the world must constantly fret!

Ditto with Alexa. I've often wondered too about soccer players, who also bounce balls off their heads. None of this can be good. I like your photo, and it makes me want to attend an American football game.

That's why I've never been a fan of contact sports. I always worry about the athletes, young and old.
High school football teams are such a part of towns in America. Thanks for the remind!

I have always hated football. When my son was in high school, I took a lot of flak because I would not let him play. I know he played in the neighborhood anyway, but just couldn't see letting him join the team. He managed to find enough ways to hurt himself without that.

Wonderful shot, isnt it the best feeling being in the right place at the right time AND having your camera?

Yes, i've always find it hard to see football players banging their body parts to each other at full force. They may look tough but nobody knows up to what extent the damage their bodies can tolerate.

My world is up here

I forbid both my sons to play football period! As a result of young men being hurt with concussions and damage to their heads the helmet manufacturers are designing a better helmet with more softer padding to absorb impact. It can't be done fast enough. PGma
