cameras in the sky

as I looked toward the grey sky for something interesting to photograph the other day, my husband pointed to these cameras. I quickly thought of eric tenin's recent post about paris planning to install 1200 or so cameras throughout the city of paris. after spying these, I wonder exactly how many long island has.

Great picture, it is kind of scary though to know we are being watched. I was shocked a few months ago when we received a letter from the government of Washington state saying that we were seen crossing the bridge into Vancouver and wanted to know what we were going to Washington for, they said they were doing a survey. I think it was none of their business.

I recognize the lower one as a camera that takes your picture if you run a red light. The upper one doesn't look like a camera. The middle one looks like a signal preemption system. Those ensure that emergency vehicles have a green light to get through when they need to. So, it all probably looks more onerous than it is. Although I'd hate to get caught in one of those red-light cameras, it's a lot cheaper for all of us to have them to catch people who are endangering others.

Big Brother is watching.
And it's going to get worse if we don't do a major housecleaning in Washington...

I suspect that Long Island has more cameras than I would venture a guess. There are very few places left where we are not being filmed.

Boy, that's a lot of cameras! I wonder who's checking all the film footage!! Nice capture.

Clever, clever, clever! I spotted some on the way home at an intersection near the fwy enterance - I of course took a photo but not nearly as interesting as this one. Well done.

This is one clever capture and raises some serious questions about individual rights and obligations being imposted upon us in the name of security

Whoa, I am reeling from Marlene's comment. I don't like that.

How to draw the line between traffic enforcement and spying?

Besides that, though, your photo is great!

I'm sure there are many, many more cameras than we're aware of. I just try not to think about it.

Happy Friday!!!
Cameras are everywhere! It's a good/ bad situation -- good, because they help fight crime, bad because there is no privacy.

I guess I'd chose safety over privacy any day! So many people run red lights..if they get tickets --good! Maybe less car and pedestrian accidents will result.

I'm sure we are all on film/tape hundreds of times over, without our ever knowing it. But I'm for it. It does protect us, and solves many crimes.

As much as they may document, I am sure if proof of something was needed they'd be good things to have.....

The dreaded "red light camera". Hubby and I each got caught recently While visiting our son in LA. The limit line was more than 100 feet before the intersection! It was marked but such a surprise that we didn't realize the unusual placement until it was too late. $1000 for the two of us. I've only had one ticket, 40 years ago and I don't make a habit of running red lights!

I don't know how many we have, but I believe we have a LOT. Plus we have the cameras installed on the buildings.

Happy Weekend!

Perhaps this explains why we often feel someone is watching us. Just because you're paranoid ...
