wonder wheel at coney island

Wonder-Wheel-Coney Island

I love ferris wheels and the one at coney island is magnificent. I sat in the outside stationary car so I could get a clear view without the car rocking back and forth. I was surprised to see the verrazano narrows bridge in the distance.
this next photo shows the swings at luna park as seen from the top of the wonder wheel. what parent would let their kid ride on a swing like that? do you see how high that thing is? well, I must admit, I let my son go on that ride and I think I may do so myself next time as well.

in the photo below, you can see part of the cyclone, some of luna park and a strip of beach in the distance.
below, a different perspective of the wonder wheel.

I love Ferris Wheels....from the ground. I took one in Budapest (I had done so before as a child) and was overcome with panic....since then, haven't gone up.

Beautiful photos you took!

Coney Island. Is this the same Coney Island I heard so much about while growing up on the East Coast? My goodness, I just assumed it went the way of all the other seaside amusement parks - to amusement park heaven. So glad to see it's still functioning and bringing joy to families!

Thanks for introducing us to Coney Island. I didn't realize that it was such an intriguing place. Lovely photos and story to go along. Thanks for sharing.

This post and your beautiful photos brought back fond memories of my childhood. We had an amusement park where I grew up between Salt Lake City and Ogden in Utah. Lagoon was one of the fun places all kids went, it had a fantastic old wooden roller coaster and my favorite the big ferris wheel.

Beautiful. I've heard about Coney Island all my life but, in the three times I've been to New York, I've never been there. My husband loves amusement parks, however, so maybe next time...
Meanwhile, thanks for sharing your wonderful photos (yes, full of wonder!) with us.

Wonderful shots from up there. Lily! The ferris wheel is the only ride I don't like—but since I now know there are cars here that don't swing . . . maybe I'll do it for the photo op.

Very colorful. I know the rides well and love the Wonder Wheel.

Wondering if you had a chance to stop in at the aquarium next door, which my son loves.

wowee!
I would have cold feet about taking photos from on high. I think just looking through the viewfinger would give me vertigo.

Way to go, Lily!
