K is for krisch's ice cream parlour

every easter krisch's ice cream parlour in massapequa opens a small confectionery inside their store, filling it to the brim with homemade chocolate bunnies. lately I noticed the place has started to look run down. hopefully business will go well for them this year so they can fix things up a little.
today is abc wednesday thanks to our host mrs. nesbitt and her team, sylvia, troy, roger, barb, jay and gattina. the letter for the day is K. please visit the abc wednesday meme page to join in the fun.

reflections on a chevy

if you click on this photo to enlarge, the license plate says, 'being rebuilt at cap a radiator.' this is where I get my gas tank filled two or three times a week. remember this car I posted about a couple of weeks ago? you guessed it, cap a radiator. remember this car I posted about last summer? nope, not from cap a radiator, but I am wondering if the one pictured here will ever get to look as good.
this post is a part of weekend reflections hosted by james of newtown area photo. thank you james!

cameras in the sky

as I looked toward the grey sky for something interesting to photograph the other day, my husband pointed to these cameras. I quickly thought of eric tenin's recent post about paris planning to install 1200 or so cameras throughout the city of paris. after spying these, I wonder exactly how many long island has.

hurricane aftermath

lots of wood chips and a beautiful blue sky. this large pile on the property of a local tree service appeared shortly after our recent storm. I like how the u pick pumpkin sign is still up. I guess they figure, why bother, halloween will be here before you know it anyway.

tree men and hurricanes

most people are now saying us long islanders experienced a rather wicked hurricane. people are still without power and or their cable and sadly, last I heard, nine people have died due to fallen trees. I also heard 250 trees fell in the town of hempstead during the storm. & that is just one town. as I write this winds are still gusting at 43 mph. you may want to click on this photo to get a better view of the man working towards the top of this tree. the size of a tree can be deceiving. just take a look at the pile of  logs on the front lawn. these guys have their work cut out for them.

fierce rain and 60 mph winds

this is what the roads looked like early saturday evening during the storm. lots of water spraying upwards and cars driving too fast. other than the telephone & electrical wires sparking what looked like fire next to a large tree in front of our neighbors saturday night and our lights flickering all weekend, we fared this weekends storm rather well. it could have been a lot worse, it could have been snow!

glittery shamrocks and their shadows

skywatch over the united methodist church on main street

today's skywatch is taken from the archives. I've photographed the united methodist church on main
street before. this time the light was making it golden and with such a dramatic sky, I thought this would be nice to have for those friday's when I am faced without a satisfactory photograph to post for my favorite skywatch meme.

cinema in long beach

right before the clouds descended, I caught this pretty blue sky as evidence of all of the beautiful weather we've been having lately. tomorrow's weather forecast calls for cloudy skies followed by five days of rain. who was it that said, "all good things must come to an end"?

a "happening"

have you ever heard of a "happening"? wikipedia explains a "happening" as a performance that can take place anywhere and is meant to be considered art. last september my son ian and I came upon this sign while walking past union square in manhattan. of course we had to wait and see, you know, what was going to... happen.
a minute or two later and seemingly out of nowhere, four musicians popped up and began to play some very good music. it was pretty cool. check out juliusc to find out more on their myspace page.

today is abc wednesday thanks to our host mrs. nesbitt and her team, sylvia, troy, roger, barb, jay and gattina. the letter for the day is H. please go here to join in the fun.

cheap lattes

I was shocked to see these two billboards on glen cove road in carle place the other day. I don't think I've ever seen any on long island except for the ones I've glimpsed while speeding towards the tunnel into manhattan. then again maybe I just don't ordinarily notice them.

memories of rome reflections

I had to go into the archives for this one. it's the perfect time of year for thinking back on warmer days. this was taken last summer, my first day in rome, a much dreamed about family vacation. it was extremely hot and any bit of water was a welcome respite from the heat. italians must know this because there seems to be running water around every corner. this huge fountain spilled water over its sides, complete with a memorable reflection.

solar system skywatch

I love this vivid pastel painted solar system I found at my son's former elementary school last week. perfect, I thought, for this weeks skywatch. a nice alternative to looking at the grey skies we've had around here all day! I hear it's supposed to be sunny this weekend. how's the weather around your neck of the woods?
today is skywatch friday, if you'd like to see more skies from all around the world or if you'd like to add your own sky, please visit skywatch friday to find out how. thanks to klaus and his team, sandy, wren, fishing guy, and sylvia.

sorry for the grainy photo. there is just something about this silhouette against this not so nice looking suburban backdrop that just really gets me. I love how the madonna's hand is reaching out.

Leprechaun on Main Street

has anyone gotten a chance to see crazy heart? I finally did yesterday & I am so glad I didn't miss it. oh my gosh, what a great movie! jeff bridges was amazing and I loved robert duvall. at one point I looked back at the audience and everyone looked so completely absorbed by the story. I also loved the way the movie showed how people's lives are affected by the music they listen too. go see it, you won't be disappointed.

"I'll keep on acting 'til they wipe the drool. I like the business. I like to do different parts and diverse characters. I haven't lost my enthusiasm yet!" ~robert duvall
