potage parmentier & a winner!

first off, I'd like to congratulate sandy and cosmo for winning the peter lik book! and thank you everyone for participating too. and while I'm at it, thanks also to the random number generator- picking a winner was quick and easy. I'm looking forward to seeing peter's show tonight. I love nature photography and I think it might be fun to see a professional in action.

in other news, sadly, march has shown no signs of exiting like a lamb. nothing a big pot of soup can't cure - which brings me to one of my favorite recipes, potage parmentier. I first heard of this soup when I read the wonderful julie & julia book by the infamous blogger julie powell. the ingredients are so simple I remember thinking, how could I possibly screw this up? plus it is mostly made from potatoes, one of my favorite foods ever invented by god, ever! of course there were no leeks at the market the day I decided to do this so I substituted scallions and have never tried the leeks. one day I promise I will. I also use organic turkey bacon as a garnish as you can see in the photo below. and I should add, we must always have a piece of  buttered brick oven bread on hand to use for dipping. it's serious comfort food. if you'd like to try it, click on my chicken scrawled recipe to make it easier to read. stay warm everyone!

The soup looks really delicious.

One of my all time favortie soups to make is Potato. Some time ago, I did a picture post of the steps I do for my version.

Thanks for dropping by.

yum. Peter Lik. Do you really like his work? I mean, it's dazzling for sure. But if you go to his store, it's all about marketing. They have wall photos that change in hue as the light changes during the day. It's a gimmick. And I have trouble believing it's all film with no manipulation as one of his sales people told me. Too much perfection! My 3 cents
Dear Lily, what a great post! I especially liked the fact that you used a handwritten recipe that we can click on to enlarge. Great idea. Soup is the only thing that makes living on Long Island on a dreary cold and rainy day workth while. Spring will come and I will try to make your soup. Thanks Lori from the Jarvis House, The flowers here are just aching to burst open.
yes it does seem like a good day for soup. they are telling us to expect anywhere from 1 to 8 inches of snow...and if that happens I'm afraid soup with either leeks or scallions won't be enough for me...I will have to break out the vodka...it's made with potatoes isn't it?

To answer your question Ken, as an artist, for me it's not a question of whether or not I like Peter's work, it's a question of supporting another's passion as an artist.
With that said, of course I do have my personal preferences so yes, I do like his work.
As to whether or not he could capture what he does on film, I can't answer that but I will tell you I have caught some images with my digital camera that have totally surprised me.

Oh, darn! You mean I missed the chance to participate in the giveaway? *sigh* Congrats to the lucky winner. I could use some of the soup right about now for some comfort. I'd like to try it. Never had it before.
