children in the suburbs

please click on photo to see baby and stork up close

or maybe more appropriately, babies in the burbs! though, today is abc wednesday and the letter is C, so children it is. I often wonder if anyone anywhere else in the world outside of new york puts up big signs in front of their house when they have a newborn. this sign is especially cute showing a bird(?) holding the baby with its beak. happy wednesday everyone!

today is abc wednesday thanks to mrs. nesbitt and the letter for the day is C. please go here to join in the fun.

I've never seen that before. Thanks for showing me something new. :-)

Maybe Americans still think the stork brings babies! :-)

I wondered the same thing about the Netherlands! They do it here as well. They use storks, cabbages or Miffy (by Dick Bruna) to 'advertise' the birth of a new child!

They certainly don't do it in the city... Not that I've seen, anyway.

Congratulations to the family on their new bundle of joy.

Oh yes. People all over the country do it. there have been quite a few spotted here in NJ recently.

Cute (another C word)! Nice choice, and congrats to the proud parents who put up this very public announcement.
Rinkly - the stork DOESN'T bring babies. Oh dear...

Clever capture .. ;-D
We see those 3 D wooden baby announcement storks in Brooklyn, NY too! It's a nice way to let your neighbors know your baby was born...a happy occasion to be shared.

I've never seen a stork sign like that (very cute!), but I've seen a pink or blue balloon bouquet tied out front to celebrate the new arrival.

I love that idea, and the stork. The proud parents along from me put up a banner in the window. I seem to remember reading that the Italians put a flower of the apropriate colour on the door after the birth.

My theory is that Americans are generally so cut-off from neighbors/close social circles that they look to yard signs announcing babies as a way to connect with others. Or maybe another form of commodification? Oh well, that's what periodic viewing of Lynch's Eraserhead (and love his other films too) has done to me...
