O is for Otto

please click on photo to see otto up close

otto is the name of this ghost standing guard over at hicks nursery in westbury. I've written about hicks before, they always have something interesting for children going on during the different seasons and holidays. I thought otto's portrait was the perfect post for this halloween week. have you put up any scary decorations this year?

today is abc wednesday thanks to our host mrs. nesbitt. the letter for the day is O. please go here to join in the fun.

Must admit that I don't decorate in any way for Halloween (and am rarely home that night because the annual parade takes place right below the ex's windows). But I was out on Long Island this past weekend, and I know that Otto is just the tip of the iceberg! How about you, Lily? Do you go all out?

No scary decorations here. We live on a farm and no trick or treaters come here...they go where there are lots of houses in a row, where they can get volumes of goodies.

Nice Halloween picture, Lily!
Some wiches and owls in a terrible Halloween train in front of a big shopping center here! ;-)

Hardly no Halloween decorations in France, although the stores have been desperately trying to get us to do so for a few years. New stuff to sell !!!
A few kids, "sponsored" by some school associations, do Trick or Treat but Halloween takes place righ in the middle of vacation time. So really nothing compared to Carnaval !!!

Oh, he is just sooo cute. I love him. I just do minimal decorations inside; nobody does Halloween here.

Otto is great!
I haven't decorated a whole lot this year. Just a couple of little scarecrows and a pumpkin. I think I will do what I did last year on Halloween night and put a pumpkin full of candy out on the step and let them help themselves. I miss seeing the littlest ones in costume, but just can't handle it any more.

I haven't done Halloween decorations since my kids were litte, but I do like it when kids come by Trick or Treating. (Not many do, though, because we live in a rural area.
Otto is a great decoration for the kids!

Well, Otto is a fun O! No Halloween decorations here..and no trick or treaters come on this small quiet cul-de-sac...but autumn decorations abound as this is my favorite time of the year!

we have decorated indoors at least

We don't decorate as there are actually no young children in the whole neighborhood. Also, there's not as much trick or treating here anyway as more and more parents seem to prefer having neighborhood parties for Halloween as a safety factor -- too many nut cases out there. But when my kids were little it was a big deal, costumes, trick or treating etc. and we lived in a small town. I love Otto! Great post, Lily!

Enjoy your day!

Sylvia
Otto is cool! I don't decorate as much as I did when I had young children, and I'm noticing less decorations everywhere...I guess the recession has dampered people's spirits?

Perfect O choice. I think Otto is a friendly ghost.
Oh is awesome! I briefly lived on Long Island (a winter rental in the Hamptons) and loved it!

Otto doesn't look scary just rather odd.
We don't decorate here - you do see pumpkin lanterns but Hallowe'en's not a big event in UK.

My grandchildren go all out for Halloween, both costumes and decorations. One year two of them raised pumpkins and carved quite a few of them into dramatic Jack-o'-lanterns.

Excellent for Halloween. When I hear the name Otto, I think of Kevin Kline's character in the film A Fish Called Wanda!

Otto sure looks cute. A relative of Casper?
I have a 5-year-old; yes, we do Halloween.
the name Otto reminds me of Bismarck.

Oh, boy - is that fun or what! Otto is just grand.

No, we don't do Halloween here. It's not really an English thing, though in recent years it's been growing. It was non-existent in my childhood, and almost non-existent in my children's day, too, so it's just not something we're into.

I did enjoy seeing some of the more creative decorations in the US when we were there though and Otto is a great example!
