tree men and hurricanes
most people are now saying us long islanders experienced a rather wicked hurricane. people are still without power and or their cable and sadly, last I heard, nine people have died due to fallen trees. I also heard 250 trees fell in the town of hempstead during the storm. & that is just one town. as I write this winds are still gusting at 43 mph. you may want to click on this photo to get a better view of the man working towards the top of this tree. the size of a tree can be deceiving. just take a look at the pile of logs on the front lawn. these guys have their work cut out for them.

Alexa, I think we were just lucky. though I have been hearing of neighborhoods with trees down along entire blocks (like your Monday post described), thankfully, no damage here.
I don't think anyone expected the storm to be so bad!

Why don't they bury their electric wires underground? I mean, all the time people are without power - it's like never ending on Long Island.

So sad that so many trees were lost. It looks to me that the home owners of this one were very lucky that it didn't come down on their roof.

I wish they would bury the lines. It was poor planning from the get go.
Long Island Power Authority aka LIPA would do the work, but each town would have to foot the bill and at this point the cost is astronomical.
Bobbie, I think a branch did hit their roof, it looked like there was a slight indentation on it that was hard to see in this photo. Either way I'm sure the owners felt it was too close for comfort after the hurricane.

Hurricanes looks scary! It's very sad that so many trees were cut down... Fortunately the house is safe.

It was nuts here, too. We were all hunkered down, waiting for the windows to crash in. Terrible storm!
