today's flower was found on, you guessed it, block island. I spotted this while out riding my bike. and though it may be hard to tell by looking at this photo, the largest white flower is bigger than my rather large adult hand. please visit "today's flowers" if you'd like to see more beautiful blooms or if you'd like to add your own.
Beautifully framed shot, Lily, of this...is it a Rose of Sharon? If so, it has to be the biggest one I've heard of, though this summer I did see some larger-than-usual ones here.
Sweet ... the church on the corner of Broadway/79th St has the same plant growing and their flowers are as large .. I am in awe of nature having seen these up close
I've also seen some like these recently down by Battery Park. (I think it's a hardy hibiscus, aka rose mallow or dinner plate hibiscus.) You've captured them so beautifully!
You have heard of LI & its many stereotypes? You wonder if they may be true but wish not to risk visiting in the event that they are. Be bold then & visit me daily & I promise I will show you many sides of Long Island that you will be both amazed & inspired by.

It's amazing how large some of these flowers grow. These are gorgeous shots with such vibrant color.
