horses on the long island expressway

photo courtesy of ian, please click on photo for greater detail.

now that's not something I see everyday! OK, I am exaggerating a tad bit, it actually was the service road, but still.
yet there they were and only too happy to pose for us smiling and waving. my dear son had the honors, since I was driving. it was this past saturday, the snow had just begun to fall, it really was quite lovely seeing them. though indeed a bit odd. but then again, perhaps not odd for this old westbury neighborhood. if you'd like to see more odd shots, please go here & visit katney's kaboodle. Happy Monday everyone!

Interesting picture, Lily.
They are very nice indeed, and can surely help in case of troubles during the snowfalls.

great picture - the only difference here is that wooly hat would be a hard hat!

Maybe, it's more safe to 'drive a horse' than to drive a car, with the snow ...
Greetings from Belgium !

Very cute! I like how the one horse is pointed in the right direction of the One Way sign!

Fun! The riders seemed to enjoy having their photo snapped too! :)

I guess I should add we live in the suburbs here on L.I. where there is quite a bit of traffic, not very "country" like though some areas like the north shore pictured here & out east are more open and like the country in some ways.

Good photo especially with the snow shower....

That is indeed odd .. but the LIE is infamous for its never ending congestion maybe this is the smarter way to 'round all that traffic AND help the ecology!

At least they are going the right way.

westbury *very* horsey :-) nice to see riders out on the roads, used to be much more common. more and more barns this far west close every year. sad.

Wow, that is an unusual combination--the LIE and horses.
