shadows and animal tracks

please click on photo to see greater details of wildlife evidence.

how exciting it was to come across evidence of wildlife while out in my suburban backyard yesterday. I found these animal tracks while looking for shadows. I can see that the small grouping of many paw prints in the snow are from my yorkie priscilla, but the pair of the longer prints towards the left must be from a raccoon. hopefully they both weren't out on the patio at the same time. priscilla has her rabies shot, but still...besides, she only weighs eleven pounds. I don't think I would have noticed these prints if I wasn't drawn to the light and shadows while taking photos yesterday. do you ever encounter wild animals in your backyard?

Great shot & what a lucky find! Makes you wonder what else passes through your yard, huh? The only critters that leave evidence of their presence in our yard are skunks!

Hey that cool shot kind of makes me think of a close-up image of the moon! I'm not sure there would be raccoons on the moon. Maybe. We don't have raccoons over here, but I really like them. I've never seen one for real and I understand they are pests over there but I think they're a little bit cute. The only wildlife visitors to my backyard are birds. Lots of different birds which is nice. No furry-style visitors. Except for the cat from next door sometimes. He isn't exactly wild though ;)

Great picture. We would (if we had snow) have many, many cat prints, the occasional dog, and probably both raccoons and skunks. I would love to find others, but I don't know of any in our immediate neighborhood. Just a few miles down the road, I understand they have seen a coyote or two.

Yeah, just think of all the cool shadows we ignored, before Tracy's SSS...good to be enlightened!

I like the texture of the melting snow and the soft subtle shawdows. Our yard is fenced...but we do get 'coons, shunks, rabbits and squirrels.
Deer, cottontails and jack rabbits daily.

Fun to find tracks and shadows...

I have a woodchuck that hangs out in my yard from time to time but haven't seen it since fall. No racoons yet. Cool shot.

Footprints on the snow? That's fabulous to see!

Job well done.
Great shots..not a lover of raccoons, they make me nervous..They always tear down my suet for the birds..even open the metal holder..Happy SSS..

Those look like rabbit prints, hopping. We saw a fawn on the side of the road coming home from Bear Mt. today, she was beautiful, what was so interesting is she was on the side of the road sniffing the ground all the while the traffic was streaming down the highway. She wasn't intimidated at all. Pgma

In the front yard at our house, you can see bunny tracks. Since I haven't seen many bunnies since the fall, it's nice to know they are still there.-Jen
